Few viewers could have predicted the shocking revelation in Dexter: Resurrection Episode 6. Gareth — better known as the infamous Gemini Killer — is, in fact, a Gemini in the truest sense. He has an identical twin, and the two may very well be working together.

This jaw-dropping twist instantly redefines everything we thought we knew about Gareth and retroactively makes sense of David Dastmalchian’s cryptic interviews hinting at Gareth’s “secret power.”

How It All Began: Gareth’s Chilling Introduction

We first met Gareth in Episode 4, "Call Me Red" — a fan-favorite that introduced us to Dastmalchian’s unsettling yet captivating portrayal. Gareth came across as reserved, introverted, and eerily controlled. He wasn’t the loudest voice in the room at Leon Prater’s dinner party, where he mingled with other killers like Red, Lady Vengeance, Rapunzel, and the Tattoo Collector. But something about his quiet demeanor hinted at a darkness beneath the surface — the kind you only notice once you start talking to him.

In Episode 5, Gareth is completely absent, with the story shifting focus to Mia Lapierre (Krysten Ritter) and her rapid downfall after crossing paths with Dexter.

Episode 6: The Cat and Mouse Begins

Gareth returns in Episode 6, during a tense meeting at Prater’s where the killers discuss Mia’s arrest and Lowell’s disappearance. As Gareth leaves, Dexter — now aware of the Gemini Killer’s horrific crimes — tails him to a Manhattan bookstore.

Inside the shop, Gareth slips a bookmark into a true-crime book about serial killers, marking a chapter on The Gemini Killer. The bookmark is simple — just two words: 8 PM. For now, its meaning, and its intended recipient, remain a mystery.

What follows is a tense game of cat and mouse. Gareth, knowing full well that Dexter trailed him through the bookstore, turns the tables and follows him to Blessing’s house. There, the masks come off. Catching Dexter in the act — still posing as “Red,” an eager fan — Gareth plays along, inviting him in for a drink. One glass is secretly laced with M99, the potent animal tranquilizer Dexter knows all too well.

Before serving it, Gareth can’t resist bragging about his crimes, radiating arrogance and self-importance. But Dexter, anticipating Gareth’s paranoia, offers him the untainted drink first — betting he’ll switch glasses out of suspicion. The gamble pays off. Gareth takes the bait, downs the spiked gin, and collapses within moments.

Recognizing the danger Gareth poses to Harrison, Blessing’s family, and countless potential victims, Dexter wastes no time. He kills Gareth in his rented basement, certain he’s eliminated one of the most dangerous killers he’s ever faced.

The Twist That Changes Everything

The very next day, Charley gathers the surviving killers — Leon, Dexter, and Al — for a mysterious retreat, meeting at a Manhattan helipad. Dexter feels confident and safe, knowing Gareth won’t show.

Then, a black car pulls up. Out steps… Gareth. Alive.

Except, this isn’t the same Gareth Dexter killed. This is the other twin — the reason the moniker “Gemini Killer” is more literal than anyone realized.

Why This Twist Is a Game-Changer

This marks one of the most unique twists in Dexter history. Never before has the show explored the idea of an identical twin antagonist. The reveal not only shocks Dexter but also gives deeper meaning to the killer’s name — and raises a tidal wave of questions.

Three Burning Questions After Episode 6

1. Who is the real Gareth, and what’s the twin’s name?
They can’t both be named Gareth, which means one has been hiding under an alias all along.

2. Are both twins killers?
Dexter refers to them as “Gemini killers” in the final scene, but it’s still unclear if they kill together, take turns, or if one serves as the perfect alibi for the other — explaining the killer’s unmatched success at evading capture.

3. Does the surviving twin know Dexter killed his brother?
If his twin mentioned being followed by Red in a bookstore before vanishing, Gareth could easily piece together Dexter’s involvement. The consequences could be catastrophic for Dexter’s loved ones if revenge is on the agenda.

One More Layer of Secrecy

The episode makes it clear: Leon Prater, Charley, and the rest of the world have no idea that two Gareths exist. That secrecy could make the Gemini Killer(s) more dangerous than ever.

What’s your theory?
Do you think both twins are murderers? Or is one simply enabling the other’s crimes? And what’s the real name of Gareth’s brother? Drop your theories in the comments — this is one twist Dexter fans will be dissecting for weeks.
