Peter Dinklage Reveals Leon Prater’s True Feelings for ‘Red’ in Episode 7 Featurette

Dexter: Resurrection’s 'Post Mortem' featurette is back, and this time dissecting Episode 7.

This season of Dexter: Resurrection has been nothing short of thrilling for fans. Not only are we getting a gripping continuation of Dexter Morgan’s story, but the series has also leveled up with the addition of major Hollywood talent. Among the standout new cast members is Emmy-winning actor Peter Dinklage, whose presence has brought a whole new dimension of star power to the show.

Dinklage, best known for his legendary performance as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, steps into the role of Leon Prater, a wealthy and eccentric collector with a dark obsession: serial killers. His character is strange, intimidating, and unpredictable—qualities that make every scene with him feel electric.

Episode 7 featured Prater’s lavish mansion outside New York, where Dexter (still posing as “Red”) found himself drawn deeper into the twisted circle of killers. The setting became the stage for shocking revelations, disturbing rituals, and a deadly encounter with Gareth #2.

Showtime’s Post Mortem Featurette – Dinklage Speaks Out

As always, Showtime released its weekly Post Mortem featurette, breaking down the biggest moments from the episode. This week, Peter Dinklage shared fascinating insights into Prater’s unusual bond with “Red.”

On Prater’s Connection to Dexter/Red

Dinklage revealed that Prater sees something in Red that he doesn’t see in the others:

“He respects some of the others, but I don’t think he really likes them. He likes Red. He can see himself being almost friends with Red. The other ones—it’s a business transaction. He’s never told his backstory to any of them, nor has he wanted to. Maybe he doesn’t trust them with that information.”

He added: “He’s actually feeling friendship, or love, or whatever you want to call it, for the first time with Red. There’s a kindness he sees in him—even though it’s crazy, considering the violence happening around them. And when we shot that scene, it clicked: I don’t want to play a villain the audience can’t wait to see die. The best villains, you empathize with a bit. His parents were killed in front of him—how can you not feel something?”

On Gareth’s Death and Prater’s Loyalty

When asked about why Prater was quick to side with Red after Gareth’s death, Dinklage explained:

“For one, I don’t think Prater really liked Gareth. He was arrogant, he set himself apart from the pack. Red did such a convincing job in the chaos of that moment, of course Prater would believe him.”

Michael C. Hall and David Zayas on Batista’s Return

Beyond Dinklage’s standout performance, the episode also delivered an emotional gut punch with the return of David Zayas as Angel Batista. The dynamic between Batista and Dexter has long been one of the show’s emotional cores, and now their reunion feels destined for heartbreak.

Michael C. Hall reflected on the scene:

“I think it’s devastating. The presence of Batista in Dexter’s world is fascinating because Dexter really likes him. He’s almost pleading: ‘This is not going to end well.’”

David Zayas added:

“Batista is basically saying: I know. I know you know that I know. No one else knows, but I’ll let them know. I’ll find out, and I’ll get you the right way. Even though he spent eight years unaware of Dexter’s true identity, it doesn’t take away his instincts as a great cop.”

What’s Next for Dexter and Prater?

With Prater’s growing attachment to “Red” and Batista closing in, the stakes for Dexter Morgan have never been higher. The blurred line between trust and betrayal could push Dexter into one of the most dangerous corners of his life yet.
