Dan Stevens Teases Dexter: Resurrection Season 2’s “Very Unsettling” Antagonist and His “Twisted Narrative”

The actor behind the new main antagonist, the Five Borough Killer, recently opened up about his role in the upcoming season.

Production on the second season of Dexter: Resurrection had not even begun when Dan Stevens, one of Hollywood's most versatile actors, joined the cast as a series regular. What made his casting even more surprising, however, was the reveal that he would play the Five Borough Killer, a villain who, based on the official description, will serve as the season's second major antagonist.

This means Dexter Morgan will not only have to deal with the New York Ripper, the mysterious killer who was heavily discussed last year, but also a much younger and, by all indications, potentially even more dangerous villain.

Dan Stevens Teases the Five Borough Killer

In a recent interview with Collider, Stevens opened up about his role and chose some particularly interesting words to describe the Five Borough Killer.

"It's a very unsettling character," Stevens said. He then added, "It's very unusual in terms of the way that he operates, the sort of twisted narrative that he's created for himself."

We already got some hints about just how evil and unusual Owen Stark, the character's real name, will be through his official character synopsis.

Paramount+ revealed the synopsis when Stevens' casting was announced, describing Owen as "calculated" and "terrifying" and even comparing him to the Zodiac Killer, the creepy real-life serial killer.

The way Stevens actually describes Owen's "twisted narrative" and the unusual way he operates could suggest that there is also a strong narcissistic side to the Five Borough Killer.

Dan Stevens Praises the Dexter: Resurrection Team

Stevens also had nothing but positive things to say about his experience joining Dexter: Resurrection and working with the cast and crew. His comments definitely match what many other actors from the sequel series have said recently about the production.

"It's a wonderful family to be stepping into. Such a well-oiled machine, and it is really a family and Michael C. Hall is a wonderful, wonderful actor. I've admired him for such a long time and that was a real draw."

"We're right in the thick of shooting it right now and it's evolving day by day. What a fun world to get to join. And, as I say, I've admired Michael for so long and that show is such a sort of a cornerstone of, you know, I guess it's horror, isn't it? It's wonderful to get to add that to the canon."

Although we got our first official look at Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 a few weeks ago through a series of promotional photos from different episodes, Dan Stevens' character was notably absent. That means we still do not have an official first look at Owen Stark, despite the growing interest surrounding the Five Borough Killer and his role in Dexter's story.

Whether Paramount+ will eventually release a separate batch of images featuring Stevens' character, possibly alongside the New York Ripper, remains to be seen.

For now, Stevens' comments actually make the Five Borough Killer even more intriguing, especially after the official description already teased a calculated and terrifying villain who has created his own twisted narrative.
