Fans Convinced Blessing Kamara Is the New York Ripper After Chilling Dexter: Resurrection Quote

Is it a clever misdirect, or a clue to Blessing’s true identity?

This season of Dexter: Resurrection is shaping up to be one of the most suspenseful in the franchise’s history. Beyond the wild twists that keep fans hooked, a major mystery is dominating online discussions: the identity of the New York Ripper, a brutal serial killer responsible for a string of horrific crimes in the Big Apple.

Who Is the New York Ripper?

So far, the killer’s face and methods have remained in the shadows. With 22 confirmed murders by the latest episode—and not a single one shown on screen—fans have been piecing together clues from brief mentions in the series.

We first heard about the Ripper in Episode 4, when Leon Prater described him and displayed one of his murder weapons: a sinister crowbar-like hook in his “serial killer vault.” Detective Claudette Wallace has also emerged as a central figure in the hunt, her obsession with the case suggesting a deeply personal stake.

Fans Are Theorizing — And Pointing Fingers

The Ripper’s calculated M.O. and chilling body count have led viewers to suspect characters we’ve already met. Among the most-discussed suspects are Jonah Mitchell and Blessing Kamara. The latter has been nothing short of a guardian angel for Dexter since his arrival in New York City—helping him secure housing, find work as a UrCar driver, and integrate quickly into his new life.

Ironically, it was through Blessing that Dexter first learned about the “Dark Passenger Killer,” setting in motion events that allowed him to impersonate another murderer, gain financial independence, and settle comfortably in the city.

The Blessing Kamara Theory

Despite Blessing’s helpful and seemingly selfless nature, some fans believe he’s hiding a dark secret—and possibly that he is the New York Ripper. The theory gained traction after Episode 6, Cats & Mouse, revealed that Blessing had killed someone back in his homeland of Sierra Leone.

To add to that, in one pivotal and very emotional conversation, Blessing shared a chilling piece of advice from his late mother, Prudence:

“Never ever bring darkness into my home. You must keep it seperate to survive. Always.”

To some viewers, this was more than a personal reflection, it was a possible coded hint from the writers. The idea is that Blessing appears virtuous to his friends, family, and community, but once he’s outside that safe space, his “darkness” is unleashed, leading to the Ripper’s horrific crimes.

Where Dexter Stands in the Mystery

At this point, Dexter himself seems largely unaware of the Ripper’s full story, aside from what Leon Prater told him. Whether he’s too busy with other matters or dismisses the case as a relic of the past, Dexter has yet to take action.

Reasons Blessing Probably Isn’t the New York Ripper

While the theory is intriguing, there are several reasons it might not hold up:

1. Misdirection

TV writers often use dialogue and subtle character beats to mislead viewers. Blessing’s quote could simply be a red herring.

2. Unlikely Coincidence

New York City has over 8 million residents; the odds of Dexter meeting another active serial killer on his first day are slim.

3. Actor’s Social Media Activity

Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, who plays Blessing, shared our previous Dexter Daily article about the fan theory on Instagram. Given the strict NDAs actors work under, it’s unlikely he’d post something that spoiled a major twist. This suggests he’s more amused by the rumors than confirming them.

Conclusion

Whether Blessing Kamara is a misunderstood friend or the most dangerous man in New York, Dexter: Resurrection has successfully planted seeds of doubt and speculation in the fandom. Until more clues emerge, the identity of the New York Ripper remains one of the show’s most tantalizing mysteries, that will potentially be something to take for Dexter Morgan, in the show's second season.

What do you think? After Episode 6’s revelations, are you convinced Blessing Kamara could be the Ripper—or is this all just a clever misdirect by the writers? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
