What’s Gareth’s twin brother’s name? The mystery is finally solved!
Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Dexter: Resurrection Season 1, Episode 6, “Cats & Mouse.”
Dexter: Resurrection just delivered one of its most jaw-dropping twists yet, and fans are still trying to wrap their heads around it. Episode 6, titled “Cats & Mouse,” didn’t just pull the rug from under viewers—it threw it across the room.
In a shocking turn of events, it’s revealed that Gareth, the infamous Gemini Killer, has an identical twin brother.
The Gemini Killer Returns to the Spotlight
For the uninitiated, the Gemini Killer is one of the most feared figures in the Dexter universe—a serial murderer with a disturbing ritual: killing in pairs. While the series has kept the full scope of his body count a mystery, his murders have spanned across the United States, leaving a trail of fear and unanswered questions.
After sitting out Episode 5 (which focused heavily on Mia Lapierre), Gareth makes a memorable return in Episode 6. We first see him at a gathering in billionaire Prater’s mansion, following Lady Vengeance’s arrest and Lowell’s disappearance. Visibly shaken, Gareth boasts—arrogantly—that he’s “the FBI’s most wanted serial killer in America who’s never been caught.” That comment immediately piques Dexter’s interest, prompting him to start tailing Gareth in hopes of learning more about his methods.
Dexter’s Deadly Game of Cat and Mouse
It doesn’t take long for Gareth to realize he’s being followed by “Red” (Dexter’s cover identity). This leads to a tense and unexpected encounter in Dexter’s landlord’s basement. Playing it cool, Dexter claims to be a fan of Gareth’s “work,” feeding into the killer’s massive ego.
Dexter offers Gareth a gin and tonic—spiked with M99. Suspicious, Gareth swaps glasses, only to be outsmarted by Dexter yet again. Moments later, the Gemini Killer is incapacitated. In a swift, unplanned kill (all while a wake for Blessing’s mother is happening upstairs), Dexter disposes of Gareth’s body in an incinerator.
Believing he’s eliminated one of the country’s most notorious killers, Dexter feels a mix of satisfaction and a rare pang of remorse. After all, in a short span of time since adopting his new identity, three members of the group have already been taken out.
That moment of reflection is short-lived—because Dexter soon learns the chilling truth: Gareth had an identical twin who has now taken his place.
The Big Reveal – Two Gareths?
Naturally, fans had one burning question: If one brother is named Gareth… what’s the other one’s name?
Executive producer and co-showrunner Scott Reynolds finally ended the speculation earlier today, revealing the answer on social media:
“I’ve been asked about Gareth’s twin’s name—and the answer is… Gareth. Their mother named them both Gareth. Part of their damage. So I guess two Gareths are better than one.”
Yes, you read that right—both identical twins are named Gareth. It’s a bizarre, almost unheard-of detail in real life, and a deeply unsettling insight into the twins’ upbringing. Whether their mother’s decision was rooted in neglect, cruelty, or twisted sentimentality, it clearly contributed to shaping two dangerously disturbed individuals.
What’s Next for Gareth #2?
The revelation leaves fans wondering—will the surviving Gareth seek revenge for his brother’s death? As of now, he likely doesn’t know what happened… but twins are often said to have an uncanny connection.
The promo for Episode 7 hints that Gareth may already be suspicious of Red, and given his intelligence, it wouldn’t be surprising if he puts the pieces together. If he does, Dexter could find himself the target of a very personal—and very dangerous—vendetta.
What do you think? Why did their mother give both twins the same name, and what role will Gareth #2 play in the episodes ahead? Share your theories in the comments!
