Paramount Global has subtly removed Showtime from the name of its premium streaming package.
If you're a Dexter fan planning to re-subscribe to Paramount+ ahead of Dexter: Resurrection, there's a small—but important—change to be aware of.
Paramount+ has rebranded its ad-free subscription tier. As of June 23, Paramount+ With Showtime is now officially called Paramount+ Premium. This update follows the 2023 merger of Paramount’s streaming platform and its premium cable brand, Showtime, which also marked the shutdown of the standalone Showtime streaming app.
So, what does this mean for subscribers? The good news is that the price remains the same. Paramount+ Premium still costs $12.99 per month. The plan continues to offer ad-free viewing (except for live programming), full access to Showtime’s acclaimed library — including franchises like Dexter and Yellowjackets — as well as several other premium features.
The more affordable Paramount+ Essential tier is still available at $7.99 per month, but it does not include the full Showtime lineup. Only a limited selection of Showtime content has been made available to Essential subscribers as part of a recent update.
Although the streaming service has been rebranded, the Showtime name isn’t going away entirely. The cable channels will continue to operate under the original Showtime name. Additionally, for clarity, it’s worth noting that the flagship channel on cable and live TV platforms will still be called Paramount+ with Showtime.
According to a notice on Paramount+’s support page:
“On June 23, we updated the name of our ad-free plan from Paramount+ With Showtime to Paramount+ Premium. Since we recently introduced a sampling of Showtime programming to the Essential plan, the Premium plan name reflects the broad and diverse offerings across both plan tiers. Showtime programming remains an important part of Paramount+, and is still prominently represented on the service! In addition, the name of the Paramount+ With Showtime network on your cable, satellite, or live TV streaming service (like Hulu With Live TV) will not be changing.”
