Over 2.1 million viewers worldwide tuned to watch the premiere within its first three days.
After days of anticipation regarding the ratings for Dexter: Original Sin Episode 1, we finally have exciting news for Showtime, Paramount+, and the Dexter franchise.
According to Paramount Global, Dexter: Original Sin has officially become Showtime’s most-streamed premiere in history. The debut episode garnered an impressive 2.1 million global viewers across Paramount+ and Showtime within its first three days of availability. It also set a record as the network’s most socially engaged premiere ever, with 657,000 interactions.
Previously, Showtime’s record for the most-streamed premiere was held by Yellowjackets Season 2, which debuted to 1.3 million viewers in 2023, as reported by The Wrap.
While it’s still early, this milestone bodes well for the future of Dexter: Original Sin. Unlike its predecessor, Dexter: New Blood, which was a limited series, Original Sin is designed as a more expansive project. This strong start could play a pivotal role in shaping Paramount and Showtime’s decisions, making a Season 2 renewal seem well within reach.
To put this into perspective, Dexter: New Blood set records for Showtime back in January 2022, with its finale averaging 3 million viewers—making it the network’s strongest finale in eight years. The only episode to surpass it? The original Dexter series finale, which drew 3.3 million viewers on September 22, 2013.
The numbers don’t lie—Dexter continues to captivate audiences and dominate the charts.
