John Lithgow Explains Trinity Killer's Continued Popularity

John Lithgow has had plenty of iconic television roles, but the one that continues to follow him was his one-season arc on "Dexter" as the Trinity Killer. During an interview on "Live with Kelly and Michael," he recalls the continued popularity of that character.

"The Trinity Killer perversely was so popular. Everyone just loved that season of 'Dexter,'" he says. "It was just this extraordinary expression of gratitude."

He continues, "It was a fascinating character -- a psychopath with a real compulsion who wishes he didn't have it. It tortured him; being that bad tortured him. ... There was a strange kind of sympathy for the devil about that."

Now Lithgow is working on "Once Upon a Time," though his role as the White Rabbit is a bit more hands off than his arc on "Dexter." According to him, he does all of his work from a recording studio.

"I feel like cat who ate the cream," Lithgow says. "I haven't even met the actors who I've been working with."

Aimee Garcia Dishes on Dexter Finale: "It Was Hard For People to See Their Favorite Antihero So Sad"

via Zap2it: Whether or not you agreed with how Dexter ended in the series finale, something that all fans can agree on is that the drama was one iconic show ... and star Aimee Garcia, who played Dexter's nanny and Angel's sister Jamie, knows it.

"It's really nice to be a part of a show that got such critical claim but also has such commercial success," Garcia told Zap2it at Elyse Walker's Ninth Annual Pink Party on Saturday Oct. 19. "I joke about how we have more Facebook fans than 'Modern Family' or 'American Idol.' I went deep sea fishing in the Cook Islands and the fisherman didn't have a TV but he knew about 'Dexter.' It has that global reach."

Garcia is very outspoken over how lucky she is to have been a part of such a huge pop culture phenomenon. "At Comic-Con we had 6,500 screaming fans," Garcia says. "I feel very lucky and honored to be part of something like that. People can go through their whole careers without experiencing something like that." Michael C. Hall Talks About His Life and Career For Paste Magazine

via paste.com, by Michael Dunaway and Brendon Kelly: "It’s a funny thing sometimes, how the public’s perception of someone can be so at odds with how they see themselves. To much of the public, Michael C. Hall is a Golden Globe-winning television actor, and a brilliant one best known for two iconic roles in two groundbreaking series—as David Fisher in Six Feet Under and as the title character in Dexter. But Hall is also a classically trained actor, renowned for his interpretations of Shakespeare, hand-picked by Sondheim to star in the workshop version of one of his new plays, becoming the toast of Broadway with his lead performance in Sam Menges’ legendary revival of Cabaret.

It’s a dichotomy Hall is aware of, but he’s philosophical about it: “I think a lot of the specific things that confront you, if you have some sort of presence in the public’s consciousness through work that you’ve done, encourage you to check yourself in the same way that you’d encourage yourself to do it otherwise. We all struggle not to project onto other people an idea of who we are, and to act either in accordance with, or in a way that is resistant to, that imagined perception. I don’t know. I’m glad that people associate me with stuff that I’m proud to have done. While maybe they don’t have a sense of who I am as a person more broadly, or of what I’ve done as an actor beyond those two roles, I’m just glad they don’t associate me primarily with something that I see as way down on my own list of accomplishments. I think I’ve been lucky that some of the things that have been the most artistically viable for me have also been the most commercially viable things I’ve done. But I challenge myself generally not to concern myself too much with what other people are thinking of me; that’s always an inherent preoccupation, admittedly. But when it comes to people’s perceptions of me as an actor, if someone comes up to me and says they’re a fan of Dexter, I don’t feel compelled to recite a soliloquy or anything.” Read the rest of the article after the jump!

Daniel Radcliffe Talks About Michael C. Hall and 'Freaking People Out' by Hanging Out Together

via TV3:  Daniel Radcliffe and Michael C. Hall enjoyed confusing Dexter and Harry Potter fans and they "freaked people out" by hanging out together.

The actors have both played iconic characters, with Michael portraying Dexter in the popular TV series and Daniel starting his career as Harry Potter in the wizard franchise.Starring alongside each other in Allen Ginsberg biopic Kill Your Darlings means the two recognisable faces often spent time together - much to the amazement of fans.

"Michael and I hung out a bit, and when we were together, it definitely freaked people out, because we didn't have trailers on this film set, so we were just hanging out on sidewalks and stuff," Daniel laughed to Collider.

"People were walking by and going, 'Is that that Harry Potter guy and Dexter chatting over there?' I do think we freaked a few people out but, I like to think we sort of run blocking for each other." Since starring as the boy wizard, the 24-year-old has branched out into edgy projects such as Horns and The Woman in Black.

Daniel has found it a challenge to shake his Harry image, which is something Michael can relate to. "Also, it was nice for me to talk to Michael because he is in a much later stage in his career, and he'd done loads before he ever did Dexter, but he is in a similar position," he explained.

"He has a huge amount of attention for one thing. He probably gets called Dexter as much as I get called Harry Potter, so it's nice to just talk to him about that and see how he handles it, which is quite similar to mine. It doesn't really bother him. He's obviously very proud of Dexter, and I'm very proud of Harry Potter. But yeah, it's always nice to talk to somebody who's in a similar boat."

POLL: Will Dexter Kill Again?

Michael C. Hall Dishes on 'Kill Your Darlings': "It Was Nice to Turn the Tables on Myself"

via Press Telegram: This seems familiar. I’ve spent a lot of time with these guys. That’s Harry Potter and Dexter sitting across from me. Well, not really. It’s Daniel Radcliffe and Michael C. Hall, and they play very different characters in “Kill Your Darlings,” which opens Wednesday.

The film, created by first-time director John Krokidas from a script he wrote with Austin Bunn, tells a little-known true story of the founders of the Beat Generation. Radcliffe portrays a young Allen Ginsberg, the famed poet, and Hall is David Kammerer, whose murder is revealed early on in the film.

“It was nice to turn the tables on myself,” says Hall, who played an amiable serial killer for eight seasons on Showtime’s recently departed “Dexter.” The slaying of Kammerer by Lucien Carr, a classmate and friend of Ginsberg’s at Columbia University in the mid-1940s, was for various reasons little talked about until Carr’s death in 2005.

As it happens, Hall had been fascinated with the Beat Generation for some time and knew the story, but wondered why it hadn’t been told more widely. The actor had even met Ginsberg, who died in 1997, a couple of times in the early 1990s. Read more after the jump.

Lauren Velez Is Spokeswoman For 2013 International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival

via Daily News: Lauren Velez made her name as a TV star thanks to such cutting-edge series as “Oz,” “Dexter” and “New York Undercover.” Now, the Queens native is currently lending her name to support a fledgling film festival.

Velez was named the official spokesperson of the 2013 International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival taking place in New York in November — which is also the island’s heritage month.
“I’ve always been proud of Puerto Rican heritage month,” Velez says. “For me, the festival is a wonderful way to celebrate the month and also a way to give Puerto Rican artists a chance to shine and come together and display their talent.”

In its second year, the IPRHFF will feature nearly 50 films of varying lengths, with the requirement that they be about Puerto Rico and its people, including those in the diaspora, or have included personnel of Puerto Rican descent in a key production role on either side of the camera.

As the face of the festival, Velez was reunited with its founder, Veronica Caicedo, who two years ago directed a stage version of the actress’ solo show, “They Call Me La Lupe,” based on the life of the controversial Cuban singer. “The opportunity presented itself for me to work with Veronica again,” says Velez, who is currently in pre-production on a film version of the “La Lupe” show. “I told her, ‘I’m so proud of what you're doing and I’m very proud of all the movement that’s going on in the neighborhood.’ ”

Running Nov. 13 to Nov. 17, the festival will take place at a handful of uptown venues, including the Mist Harlem Studios in East Harlem — not far from where Velez recently moved to. “That’s also why this is such an important thing to me, because it’s connecting all of these things together and helping the community,” Velez says. Supporting the Latino community within the entertainment industry is something the actress has always regarded as highly important.

“We not only have to keep making films but we have to go and support them, which is one of the most important components,” she says. “It’s really important for us to start owning it, and not just Puerto Ricans but Latinos in general.”

C.S. Lee: "I Knew That Dexter's Popular Outside the U.S., But I Never Realized How Popular Is In Israel"

via algemeiner: The first visit by C.S. Lee – popularly known as Vince Masuka from the American TV show “Dexter” – to Israel, was an inspiring one for the Korean-American actor.

In an exclusive interview, Lee told Tazpit News Agency that there were many moving points during his trip to the Holy Land. “The visit to Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial was particularly special,” recalled Lee during his last evening in the country.

Lee was part of a contingent of acclaimed prime-time TV and movie stars led by award-winning actress Lea Thompson (Back to the Future, Switched at Birth), her husband Howard Deutch, a music director and producer, and their two actress daughters, Zoey (Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters) and Madelyn Deutch. Vivian Bang (Sullivan & Son), Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels), and Malik Yoba (Revolution) were also part of the trip, which was organized by America’s Voices in Israel.

“There was something very different about visiting the Holocaust museum here in Israel than in the U.S.,” said Lee. “At the museum in D.C., the tragedy seemed a lot more distant, whereas in Israel, it felt a lot more close and personal.”

In addition to touring Jerusalem and Yad Vashem, the actors and actresses also visited the Golan Heights and Tel Aviv, and met with notable Israeli personalities including hi-tech and business luminaries. Read the rest of the article after the jump.

POLL: Did Showtime Make the Right Choice For Dexter?

Since producer John Goldwyn revealed that Showtime wouldn't let the infamous serial killer die at the end of the series, everyone's is wondering if the network did the right choice. "They won't let us kill him," Goldwyn explained. "Showtime was very clear about that. When we told them the arc for the last season, they just said, 'Just to be clear, he's going to live.'" So, it turns out the majority of viewers weren't the only ones dissatisfied with the series finale, the writers were, too. What do you think? Did Showtime make the right decision for Dexter's fate? Vote below and discuss!

Dexter Producer John Goldwyn: "Showtime Wouldn’t Let Us Kill Dexter"

Dexter producer John Goldwyn was asked about the series finale at the NYFF premiere of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty this weekend, on how the writers decided on that ending. "They won't let us kill him," he told us. "Showtime was very clear about that. When we told them the arc for the last season, they just said, 'Just to be clear, he's going to live.' There were a lot of endings discussed because it was a very interesting problem to solve, to bring it to a close. People have a relationship with Dexter, even if it doesn't have the size and the ferocity of the fan base for Breaking Bad. But it has a very core loyal following."
