Jennifer Carpenter Talks Deb: "I Work With This Character From a Very Emotional Place"
via EW, by James Hibberd: “I hate this!” howls Jennifer Carpenter as she gets hosed down. “It’s so cold!”
The actress is standing beside a Southern California lake as Dexter assistants gently soak her. She’s preparing for a scene where she has to drag a body out of a water. Though it’s nearly 70 degrees and sunny, you get the impression she’s being stung by every drop.
Several watery minutes later, Carpenter exits the water. “I need a belt!” she says as her pants slip down her narrow hips. Then she touches her forehead, where the makeup team applied red goop to simulate a head wound. “I’m bleeding!” she cries, alarmed. Then realizes: “Oh, that’s fake…”
Watching this during a Dexter set visit a couple months ago, you initially think Carpenter is quite a handful. Star Michael C. Hall seems cool and capable on the set, while Carpenter is more like a exposed nerve.
But as you spend more time around the actress and talk to her colleagues, your first impression is replaced by a more evolved one: Carpenter feels everything. That’s the way she works. Some actors are able to switch a character on and off. But Carpenter’s portrayal of the volatile Debra Morgan is more akin to a possession. “I work with this character from a very emotional place,” she says. “I don’t know how to do anything without going full out.” Read more after the jump.

The Story Behind Dexter's Kill Clothes and Things About His Army Green Shirt
via Vulture: We know that Dexter was born in blood — but what about that army green shirt he's been wearing since the pilot? What's the shirt's origin story? Vulture talked with costume desinger Kathleen Felix-Hager, to find out. "The thought behind it was that he has his sort of everyday, lab-geek persona at work," she says. "He wears bright colors and these poppy ice-cream linen shirts and khaki pants. But then when he’s the serial killer, when he puts on the stalking shirt and the cargos, it’s sort of a darker Dexter." A darker, sexier Dexter. Here's what else we learned about his kill clothes.
1. The army green shirt, commonly referred to as Dexter's kill shirt, is actually called his stalking outfit, according to the scripts.
"There are two separate things that we refer to when we break down the script: the kill outfit and the stalking outfit. The stalking outfit is the Henley shirt and the cargo pants and his leather boots and leather gloves. It’s sort of like Dexter’s superhero costume. And then when he does his actual kill, there’s what we refer to as the kill suit; it’s a custom-made jumpsuit that’s sort of like a flight suit that zips up the front. We made eight of them." Executive Producer Sara Colleton:"It's the Beginning of the End and It's All Crushing Together"
The Hollywood Reporter talked with executive producer Sara Colleton on Thursday, just days before Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter and company return for the first of 12 final hours to see if both Dexter and his foster sister-turned-killer can survive the season.
So how have producers been preparing for the end? Jennifer Carpenter: "I Feel Like This Season Is Unlike Any Other That We've Ever Shot"
E! News chatted with Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter and returning guest star Yvonne Strahovski on the red carpet at the series finale party, where they dished on the final season and reflected on their eight years of working on Dexter.
"We're feeling a lot of things," Hall tells E! News of Dexter coming to an end. "We're feeling a lot of pride; we're feeling a lot of love, a lot of affection. It's a real family."
Carpenter echoes her ex-husband and "best friend" Hall's sentiment, saying, "It's bittersweet, but I am going to miss the people. The show is going out on a really nice note. We're finishing it the way we want, so there's nothing to be sad about, really!"
And how can you be sad when working on Dexter was like an eight-year-long party?! "Eight years is like college twice! We had a weekly kegger," Hall jokes. Now that we've got the emotional stuff out of the way, it's time to talk about the final season... even if Hall and Carpenter were tight-lipped when it came to scoop. Read more after the jump.

Aimee Garcia Teases What's In Store For Jamie On Dexter's Final Season
Dexter co-star Aimee Garcia talks with Zap2it about Jamie, and her whole different side of her this season. Spoilers ahead.
"We get more insight as to who Jamie is outside of her nanny duties," says Garcia. "We get to explore her relationship with her brother, Batista, and love might definitely be in the air for Season 8 for her. She's young and fun and flirty, so yeah, you'll get to see more of her romantic, sexual side for sure."
Is it love between Jamie and Dexter? No. Her "love goggles" for Dexter are strictly like those of an adoring younger sister.
"Dexter trusts his most precious possession, which is Harrison, to Jamie, so that tells a lot about how trustworthy and loyal she is as a person," says Garcia. "Jamie has love goggles for Dexter. She's just completely blinded by the love that she has for Dexter and, as we saw in Season 8, he considers her part of the family -- she shared Christmas dinner with him and Hannah and Harrison". Michael C. Hall Talks Final Season, Ending Dexter, Directing an Episode and Many More
Entertainment Weekly sits down with Michael C. Hall for a new interview. "Dexter has killed 125 people since we first met him seven years ago. Yet it’s breaking into all those apartments and houses that’s bugging him.
“The Miami of Dexter’s world is a world without home alarms or deadbolt locks,” he notes after having quickly lock-picked yet another suspect’s residence. “He’s like Houdini.”
Hall is sitting at the kitchen table of a Long Beach house used in the production of Dexter‘s eighth season. For his next trick, he will help bring to a close Showtime’s long-running hit series, which launches the first of its final 12 episodes on Sunday night. The lock-picking comment is very Hall. As you’ll see below, he’s quite thoughtful and analytical about his character and the series. If he were to take a Meyers-Briggs personality test, one suspects he would strongly index as a “thinking” person vs. “feeling” (the unedited transcript of his interview originally contained about a dozen uses of “I think”).
On the set, Hall comes across as cool and capable. He can switch quickly into character and causally endure a chilly submersion into a lake, for example — no complaints or slacking, but occasional “does this make sense?” questions. Since his character is almost Spock-ian in his reliance on pragmatic logic vs. emotions, Hall’s own seeming left-brain tilt has likely served him well. This season, in addition to being the star and a producer on Dexter, he’ll also make his directing debut in the second week’s episode.

Executive Producer Sara Colleton Talks Final Season and Reveals Secrets From Past Dexter Seasons
“For the very first time ever in my life, I read a book and it appeared to me as a television series,”. Buzzfeed sits down with executive producer of Dexter Sara Colleton. Get her take on the last seven years of working on the show, some inside scoop on the cast romances, Michael C. Hall's cancer diagnosis, and what's to come in the final season.
1. How the Ice Truck Killer made Dexter a likable character: “The Ice Truck Killer story was hugely important, because Rudy forced Dexter to remember … that he had a brother, and how his mother was killed,” Colleton said. “And for me, the thing that you really saw is the nature of Dexter for the first time. Even though he thinks he’s a monster, he has the capacity for humanity that he’s not aware of yet. Because his brother is so seductive: ‘Come with me, I know you, you can be yourself.’ I mean, these are things we all want to hear from someone — so seductive. And yet he makes the choice to kill his own blood brother, whom he could be himself with, to save his foster sister. Right away, you love this guy. That arc was tremendously important and helped establish the complexity of Dexter’s character.” Read eleven more, after the jump and beware of spoilers!

Michael C. Hall: "The Love and Affection For Dexter's Character Has Been Surreal"
Michael C. Hall and executive producer Sara Colleton, talk Dexter from the set of the final season. TV Guide Magazine reports:
For eight seasons, TV Guide Magazine has honored an unwritten code on the set of Dexter and disappeared whenever Michael C. Hall donned the vinyl apron, pulled back the plastic sheeting and switched into Dark Passenger mode.
The actor always insisted he needed privacy to carry out his character's deadliest task — plunging a nine-inch butcher knife into the chest of whichever bad guy was shrink-wrapped to the kill table.
But now, like the deadly code of Dexter's father, Harry, this rule is starting to crumble. "What do you think?" Hall asks in a strangely upbeat voice, ushering a journalist inside the murder chamber for the first time. Behind him, a young actor, naked under a shroud of plastic, quietly rehearses his lines with iPod buds in his ears. Dexter's knives lie like icicles on a cold steel tray. "So, was it worth the wait?"
In fairness, we'll need to get through Dexter's final season to know for sure. Only the concluding 12 episodes will resolve lingering questions about Dexter Morgan, the Miami Police Department's blood-spatter specialist who sidelines in killing serial killers. Is he going to get caught? Will he finally confess? Will he die? Or will Dexter once again defy the odds, as he has done through more than 100 murders, and slip away like a mosquito in the sweltering Florida night? Harry, at least, would appreciate that ending. Read the rest after the jump.
