Krysten Ritter Pitched a New Dexter Spinoff—and the Showrunner Didn’t Say No

In an unexpected moment, a new idea for a Dexter spinoff came up, and the showrunner’s response was more interesting than you might expect.

It wasn't that long ago that Showtime and Paramount+ revealed plans to expand the Dexter universe with new shows. But while some projects moved forward, the Trinity and Harrison spinoffs were shelved, and Dexter: Original Sin was sadly short-lived.

Now, it turns out that the creative team behind Dexter: Resurrection might have discussed even more spinoff ideas. One of them recently came to light thanks to a pitch from guest star Krysten Ritter, and showrunner Clyde Phillips had an interesting response.

It all actually happened during Entertainment Weekly's photoshoot a few months ago, featuring Michael C. Hall, Uma Thurman, and Krysten Ritter in a series of stunning photos.

The behind-the-scenes info proved just as interesting. At one point, Ritter noticed showrunner Clyde Phillips and EP/writer Scott Reynolds watching as she and Thurman posed together as their characters, Mia Lapierre and Charley Brown.

Ritter took the opportunity to pitch them a spinoff centered on the two characters. Phillips' response was intriguing: "I can’t say that we haven’t discussed it." That doesn't confirm that a show is in development, but it does suggest the idea has at least come up in conversation.

Why a Mia Lapierre Spinoff Could Actually Work

Honestly, we can see the potential here.

Mia, better known as Lady Vengeance, is a character who could carry her own show, potentially even becoming a female counterpart to Dexter Morgan. One interesting direction would be for Dexter to help her develop a code of her own, guiding her toward targeting predators who deserve it, and not just killing for sport, as we learned she was capable of in Dexter: Resurrection Season 1.

Of course, Dexter trying to guide someone with dark urges of her own could actually be a fascinating story, especially given his struggles to control his own impulses. With Charley (somehow) involved, there's also room to explore a different corner of the Dexter universe.

Was Krysten Ritter Always Meant to Get Her Own Dexter Spinoff?

When Ritter's casting was announced in early 2025, Mia's character description and the Lady Vengeance nickname immediately made us wonder whether she might eventually lead her own Dexter spinoff. Some comments and interviews surrounding her role definitely added to that speculation, although no such project has ever been officially announced.

Unfortunately, the future of the franchise remains uncertain. The cancellation of Dexter: Original Sin, along with changes at Paramount+, has made it difficult to know whether the creative team's other ideas will ever move forward.

For now, Ritter's pitch during the EW photoshoot is an interesting glimpse into what could be possible. Of course, a show centered on Mia and Charley isn't confirmed, but it's actually great to know that the Dexter: Resurrection team has considered expanding the universe through its supporting characters.
