After exactly five years, Dexter is back on the cover of Entertainment Weekly, with Michael C. Hall joined by guest star Krysten Ritter and co-star Uma Thurman for a stunning new photoshoot.
The franchise last received this treatment in 2021, ahead of the premiere of Dexter: New Blood. Now, with Dexter: Resurrection approaching its second season, the three stars are coming together for a cover that also celebrates the franchise's 20th anniversary.
Although Entertainment Weekly ended its print edition in 2022 after 32 years, the magazine has continued to release special photoshoots and what it now calls digital covers. This latest edition actually gives Dexter fans a fresh look at three of the sequel's most recognizable faces.
The New Dexter Photoshoot May Hint at What's Coming in Season 2
What makes the shoot even more interesting is not just the choice of actors joining Hall, but also the concept behind the images. The digital cover features Hall, Ritter and Thurman standing close together while raising glasses of wine. That detail could definitely be a subtle nod to Mia Lapierre's work as a sommelier in Dexter: Resurrection.

Their positioning is actually just as intriguing. With all three stars standing so close, it's hard not to wonder whether the images hint at how Dexter, Mia and Charley Brown might interact during Season 2. Mia's confirmed survival makes her place in the story especially interesting, although the photoshoot itself doesn't confirm that the three characters will share significant scenes.
The styling also reflects their on-screen roles. Thurman's wig matches Charley Brown's look in the series, while Ritter's fire-red dress reflect Lady Vengeance's character. These two choices especially, make the cover seem more tied to Dexter: Resurrection itself, than being just a photoshoot featuring its stars.
What Krysten Ritter and Uma Thurman Revealed About Their Characters
Alongside the photos, Entertainment Weekly shared some behind-the-scenes conversations with the cast, with insights into their characters' returns.
Per usual, Ritter was careful not to reveal too much about her role. She explained that her interview guidance was essentially to keep quiet, adding that she had always wanted to return to the franchise in some form and was thrilled the opportunity came along. She actually described the character as one of her favorite roles of her career, highlighting her ability to switch from a confident femme fatale to someone completely unhinged in the blink of an eye.

Thurman, meanwhile, revealed that Charley Brown returns with "unfinished business." She was excited when she first read the scripts because they allowed the former special operations officer to operate without the same restraints.
The actress also highlighted Charley's powerful conscience and the difficult line she has had to walk between good and evil throughout her professional life. Her attempts to care for an ailing parent while using her skills for darker purposes have left her deeply conflicted, adding another layer to a character who is still dealing with the consequences of her choices.
Hall also looked back at the moment that helped bring Dexter back to life. Reflecting on late 2023, he recalled thinking about the "unusually collaborative" working environment that had developed during the OG series. While reminiscing about that experience, the idea of bringing Dexter Morgan back for another show came out almost spontaneously.

In hindsight, Hall came to see Dexter's survival as a way for the character to begin again. If the gunshot at the end of Dexter: New Blood wasn't fatal, it would give Dex the chance to move beyond years of emotional baggage.
Hall added that market research suggested viewers found Dexter surviving more believable than him dying. To him, that made sense because audiences weren't quite ready to say goodbye to the character. His survival ultimately opened the door to a new chapter in the franchise, which honestly is one of the stronger ever.
Now, with Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection just days away, Hall is returning to the role alongside two major stars whose characters could play an important part in what comes next.
What do you think of the new Entertainment Weekly photoshoot? Do you actually see the way the three actors are positioned as a possible hint at how their characters will interact in Season 2, or is it simply a... stylish celebration of the franchise's 20th anniversary?
