One of the most exciting developments fans are looking forward to in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is the return of Joey Quinn, a character who first appeared as a Miami Metro detective back in 2008. Played by Desmond Harrington, Quinn is coming back as a series regular, and his return could change things in a big way.
While many fan theories online have taken a negative approach to Quinn's return, with some worrying that he could meet the same fate as Angel Batista in Season 1, recent hints suggest that his story might take a very different direction. And the latest update from someone on the creative team offers another reason to be excited about what's coming.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds opened up about Quinn's return and revealed a twist that will change his professional life.
Joey Quinn's Career Actually Takes an Unexpected Turn
The last time we saw Quinn on screen during a phonecall he had with Detective Claudette Wallace, in Episode 8 of Dexter: Resurrection Season 1, he was still serving as a lieutenant at Miami Metro. But following the three-to-four-year time jump, his career will look very different.
According to Reynolds, Quinn will have resigned from Miami Metro and become a private investigator. That is a surprising change for someone who held a senior position in the homicide department and spent nearly two decades as part of the police force.
So, why would Quinn walk away from such a long career in law enforcement?
It all comes down to his determination to find answers about Angel Batista's death and uncover the truth about Leon Prater's activities. With Quinn now working independently, his investigation could actually take him in an entirely new direction, and eventually bring him back into Dexter Morgan's life.
Why Quinn's Return Could Change Things for Dexter
With both Dexter and Quinn now in New York City, a reunion seems inevitable. And according to Reynolds, their renewed connection could mean more to Dexter than fans might expect.
The writer explained that Quinn's return could help fill the emotional void left by Batista's death. He also pointed to Quinn's "remarkable optimism," especially considering the darkness surrounding him. Despite struggling to find friendship, family, or something bigger to believe in, Quinn keeps moving forward with the hope that things might turn out differently.
That outlook could actually make Quinn an unexpectedly important presence in Dexter's life. And honestly, who would have thought that would ever happen? Their relationship in the original series was mostly shaped by their work at Miami Metro, but Dexter: Resurrection could take it in a more... personal direction.
Of course, that doesn't really mean their reunion will go smoothly. As Quinn investigates Batista's death and Prater's past, he could definitely find himself getting closer to secrets that put him against Dexter. With a new career and a personal reason to keep digging, Quinn could play a much bigger role in Season 2 than fans might have expected.
