With the second season of Dexter: Resurrection in the spotlight, many fans have already been wondering what could be in store for the future of Dexter Morgan's story, especially if the show returns for Season 3. While some might think it's too early to discuss that possibility, a recent interview has offered an intriguing hint about the direction a potential third season could take.
During a recent red carpet interview at PaleyFest NY, Scott Reynolds, the show's writer and executive producer, spoke with That Hollywood Show about the upcoming sophomore season. However, the conversation also briefly turned to Season 3, and Reynolds offered a small tease about what could be explored when the show gets picked up.
When discussing Season 2, Reynolds explained that the story actually deals with a midlife crisis and Dexter Morgan feeling unappreciated. He then shared a hint about the potential third season, saying:
"And Season 3, if we get picked up for Season 3, we can talk about Dexter, about his legacy."
What Could Dexter's Legacy Mean for Season 3?
What exactly Reynolds meant by Dexter's legacy can be interpreted in many ways. One possibility is that a potential third season could examine the long-term impact Dexter Morgan has had on the people around him, as well as the consequences of his actions and the legacy he leaves behind.
This could also connect to the recognition Dexter will be seeking in Season 2, as suggested by various interviews with the cast and crew. Of course, Reynolds didn't go into further detail, so we'll have to wait and see what this hint could actually mean if and when gets another season.
The last time we received an update from a member of the creative team was back in June, when showrunner Clyde Phillips revealed that the team behind Dexter: Resurrection already had a clear direction for the story and knew what was going to happen.
While all of this is definitely interesting, Paramount+ hasn't renewed Dexter: Resurrection for Season 3 yet, despite various rumors over the past few months claiming otherwise.
What do you think Reynolds meant by his reference to Dexter's "legacy" in a potential third season? Let us know your theories in the comments!
