There’s a specific clue that might suggest we’re going to see more than one time jump in the upcoming season.

As fans wait for the second season of Dexter: Resurrection to make its debut on Paramount+ Premium, quite a few clues have emerged over the past several months about what could be in store for the next chapter of the story.
One of the biggest questions has been how much time will actually pass between Season 1 and Season 2.
During the first few weeks of production on the sophomore season, particularly in April, several set photos appeared online, featuring Michael C. Hall in character as Dexter Morgan. A small detail in some of those images appeared to confirm that there would be a four-year time jump between the two seasons.
However, one of the most recent official updates from showrunner Clyde Phillips, during his interview with Entertainment Weekly, revealed that the time jump will be three years.
For those who may not remember the timeline of the Season 1 finale, Dexter kills Leon Prater in late March 2022. Based on what was confirmed recently, that would mean Season 2 initially picks up in 2025.
That information is particularly interesting because some set photos from Season 2, taken during different periods of production over the past few months, strongly point toward 2026 being the main year in which the events of the season take place. Among the clues was the license sticker on Dexter’s car, which definitely read 2026. There was also a stack of newspaper props connected to one of Season 2’s main antagonists, the Five Borough Killer, which appeared to point to a more specific timeframe: June 2026.
How Both Timelines Can Be Correct
So, how can both timelines actually be valid? The fact that official information points to three years passing, while evidence from the set points toward four, could be a major clue that Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will feature multiple time jumps.
The most likely scenario is that Episode 1 will initially pick up in 2025 and focus on one or more significant events. Then, at some point later in the season, the story could jump forward another year, bringing the show into 2026, which appears to be the main timeline for the rest of the season.
A First for the Franchise
Of course, this remains speculation for now, but the evidence is difficult to ignore. The purpose of such a huge time jump was recently revealed, along with how it connects to Harrison, so the creative team may have found an interesting way to use those different points in time while keeping the story moving forward.
If this theory turns out to be correct, it would actually mark a first for the franchise. And that is Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 would be the first Dexter season in history to feature more than one time jump.
