Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Will Finally End a Storyline That’s Defined Dexter Morgan for Decades

In a recent interview, Michael C. Hall revealed that Dexter Morgan will have a significant change in his personality.

The second season of Dexter: Resurrection is set to premiere this fall on Paramount+, and it looks like a huge change is coming for Dexter Morgan.

It is a change that has been years in the making, dating all the way back to the very first episode of the original series. For decades, Dexter has actually struggled with who he really is, constantly trying to balance his humanity with the darkness inside him.

But according to Michael C. Hall, this may finally be over.

Speaking with Collider's Tania Hussain, Hall revealed that Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will feature a version of Dexter unlike any fans have seen before. This time, Dexter is no longer fighting against his true nature. Instead, he has fully accepted who he is.

Hall explained that Dexter has moved past his old desire to play the role of a normal human being. After everything he has been through, he now understands that relationships are real and that his actions have real consequences for the people around him.

At the same time, Hall revealed that Dexter will be more at peace than ever with his compulsion to kill. Rather than questioning what he is or analyzing himself from a distance, Dexter has actually become more decisive and more active with everything around him.

This is a very important development for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.

Throughout the original series and later in Dexter: New Blood, Dex often showed signs that he never fully accepted himself. Beneath his confidence was a man who felt guilt and shame about the darkness he carried. No matter how much he embraced the Dark Passenger, there was always a part of him trying to hold on to something else.

That may no longer be the case. Exactly what caused this change remains a mystery at this point, but Harrison's acceptance of his father could certainly be part of it. The significant time jump between seasons may have also played a role.

However, we may have already seen the first signs of this... "transformation."

The final scene of Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 felt different from anything that came before it. As Dexter spoke directly to the audience, it seemed like he had finally stopped running from who he was. Looking back, that scene may have been teasing what is still to come.

Ever since the original Dexter pilot (and more recently in Dexter: Original Sin) it has been obvious that fitting in never really came naturally to Dexter Morgan. He spent years trying to act like the kind, friendly person society expected him to be, despite struggling to understand emotions the same way other people do.

At the same time, he continued to battle his Dark Passenger and the urges that defined a huge part of his life. Now, according to Michael C. Hall, that battle may finally be over.

And if his comments are any indication, Season 2 could actually open the door to some fascinating new storylines. It will be especially interesting to see how this affects Dexter's relationships, his decision-making, and of course the inner monologues that have been a defining part of the show.
