The Dexter star recently confirmed that the upcoming season will feature a time jump, with the story flashing forward.
As filming for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 continues, fans are getting closer to big updates, including first-look photos, teaser trailers, and eventually... the official trailer. But before any of that arrives, Michael C. Hall has already shared an interesting detail about what viewers can expect when the series returns.
In a recent interview with Gold Derby, Hall confirmed that the second season of Dexter: Resurrection won't pick up exactly where the first season left off.
"I don't want to give anything away, but we are going to flash-forward a little bit," Michael C. Hall said.
It's actually the first time someone directly involved with the series has publicly acknowledged that a time jump is coming. While Hall avoided revealing exactly how much time passes between seasons, his comment confirms something we've been reporting here on Dexter Daily for months.
The time jump appears to play an important role in where Dexter Morgan finds himself at the start of the new season. Speaking about Dexter's mindset, Hall gave a few hints about what's ahead.
He said viewers will meet Dex after the events involving the killers connected to Leon Prater. He described a Dexter who has been through a lot, is getting older, and is actually starting to care more about the legacy he will leave behind.
That description suggests that Season 2 begins after enough time has passed for significant changes to take place. Instead of continuing moments after the Season 1 finale, the story will move forward to a point where the dust has settled, characters have evolved, and new troubles have emerged.
The biggest question now is how far into the future does Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 jump?
While Hall called it "a little bit," clues from the production suggest the answer may be much bigger than fans expect. Based on information uncovered from the set, Season 2 appears to feature a four-year time jump.
Multiple clues have actually pointed in that direction, but the biggest one was a newspaper prop referencing The Five Borough Killer, one of the season's main new antagonists. The newspaper was dated June 2026, indicating in the strongest way possible, that the story takes place four years after the events of Season 1.
At this point, the evidence supporting a four-year jump has become difficult to ignore. Still, hearing Michael C. Hall publicly confirm that Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will "flash forward" is definitely more than enough.
A jump of that size definitely justifies the changes to Harrison Morgan's arc and what has happened in the years between seasons, and creates opportunities for character growth and new storylines wouldn't really be possible enough if the series picked up immediately after the finale.
For now, Hall's comments give us their first official confirmation that Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is moving the story forward in time.
