The actor behind the new character Owen Stark has opened up about joining Dexter, saying he feels “honored” to be part of the series.
Out of all the new casting additions for Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection, one name in particular caught many fans by surprise, and it’s a big one. Dan Stevens, known for his wide range of roles across television and film in recent years, is officially joining the series in what sounds like a major role.
While promoting AMC’s The Terror: Devil in Silver, Stevens was asked by ScreenRant about playing the mysterious Five Borough Killer in the upcoming season of Dexter: Resurrection. Although he couldn’t reveal much because of strict contract restrictions, the actor actually sounded very excited about joining Dexter.
Stevens admitted it has been frustrating not being able to talk openly about the role, but he did share a few new details for the first time. He said the cast and crew are having a great time building the character, while also praising the longtime team behind the series. The actor added that he feels “honored to join a cast that already includes names like Brian Cox, Uma Thurman, and Michael C. Hall”, calling the experience both exciting and fun.
What surprised many fans was not only Stevens joining the cast, but the actual nature of his role. His character, Owen Stark, also known as the Five Borough Killer, is expected to become one of Dexter Morgan’s main enemies in Season 2.
Until now, many viewers assumed Dexter would mainly be facing off against the New York Ripper in the upcoming season. Instead, it looks like the series is actually doing something entirely new by introducing two major antagonists from the very beginning of the season.
Like Brian Cox, Stevens has reportedly signed on as a series regular, suggesting he could appear throughout most, if not all, of the season’s 10 episodes. Since filming began on April 13, Stevens has also been spotted on set multiple times (see here and here), giving us an early glimpse at his unsettling new character.
According to the official character description released by Paramount+ weeks ago, Owen Stark is a terrifying and smart serial killer. Just like the Zodiac Killer, he actually likes to call the police to brag and scare them. When he starts following through on his threats, the people of New York City and the police become very afraid and panicked.
It will definitely be interesting to see how Owen Stark’s story unfolds in Dexter: Resurrection, and whether Dan Stevens’ Five Borough Killer can become one of the franchise’s most memorable villains!
