The former Breaking Bad star was teased to join Dexter, following a hint spotted in a recent image.
If you look back at the past few months, it’s pretty obvious that the buzz surrounding the New York Ripper in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 hasn’t really slowed down. In fact, ever since it was confirmed that the character will have a much bigger role than originally expected, the hype has grown stronger.
The only actor at the center of all this speculation is Bryan Cranston, best known for playing Walter White in Breaking Bad. What initially started as a silly rumor somehow gained ground, and now, with a new development straight out of the Dexter: Resurrection production offices in New York City, people are starting to believe it might be some truth to it after all. Could Cranston really be stepping in as the New York Ripper and going head-to-head with Dexter Morgan?
It all began with an Instagram story shared by director Marcos Siega, who teased the fans that follow him by pointing them toward a New York Ripper poster and encouraging them to take a closer look. At first glance, the focus actually seemed to be on the poster itself, but the real detail may have been hiding in plain sight, on the desk of executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds.
As first spotted by BingeTown’s Jim on Instagram, there was a pineapple sitting on the desk, wearing sunglasses, which to some is a clear visual nod to Heisenberg. Right on it, a pink Post-it note featured the initials “B.C.” written in pen. This is a detail that is very easy to miss, but once the image brightness is adjusted, those initials definitely become more noticeable.
Of course, the initials could actually mean anything, but fans are now convinced this was not random, especially if we combine it with the “Breaking Bread” hint from last week. Many believe it was a deliberate hint suggesting that Bryan Cranston may have already signed on to play the New York Ripper in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
And just when things couldn’t get any more...interesting, Marcos Siega actually added fuel to the fire. The director shared a reel on Instagram featuring his collection of new photos from New York City, along with the caption: “Riddle me this Dexter fans... Who is the NY Ripper? Can you figure it out?”
Among the images was an AI-generated mock poster that actually took things to another level. It featured the same pineapple with sunglasses (but this time it was bald), the Post-it note with the “B.C.” initials, and a cloudy NYC backdrop.
In a funny twist, the now bald pineapple was even holding a blood-stained ice pick. The poster included the line “from the producers of Dexter” at the top, with the title “THE NY RIPPER” underneath, followed by the tagline: “Are you ready to be ripped apart?”
Although it is actually obvious that Siega wants people to figure out who is the actor behind the Ripper, there is a big chance this was all part of an April Fools’ Day joke, and a way for the team to engage with fans who have been obsessed with New York Ripper mystery for months, especially now with the attention on the pineapple clue and those initials.
This proves again how much fun the people behind the show are having with the theories and speculation online. While many of you are taking these hints as legit clues pointing toward Bryan Cranston (which it totally understandable at this point), it might be wise to keep expectations low for now.
