Let’s take a closer look at how the overall and episode ratings on IMDb have shifted over the past few months.
Believe it or not, this month marks six months since the Season 1 finale of Dexter: Resurrection aired, and in that time both the sequel and the original series have continued to draw in new viewers and new waves of fans around the globe.
For the latest installment in particular, the response from both critics and audiences has actually remained impressively strong. One place where that enthusiasm (or frustration) is often reflected is IMDb, the decades old hub where users rate and discover films and television. Because of its reputation as a trusted source for information about actors, projects, and audience reception, many people look to it as a quick indicator of whether something is worth watching or not.
From the moment ratings became available back on July 11, Dexter: Resurrection made a powerful impression there, and that success actually was far from accidental. Across its ten-episode first season, the series proved it had something special, and viewers...responded.
So how does the show’s rating hold up half a year after the finale? Has anything changed, and if so, by how much?
Well, starting from the beginning, during its first week, Dexter: Resurrection earned an overall rating of 9.3/10. As the season unfolded, that number gradually dropped to 9.2 and later 9.1. At one point halfway through the season, it climbed back to 9.2, holding steady through the September 5 finale.
In the months that followed the finale, the rating dropped once more, first to 9.1 and most recently to 9.0, as it happens most of the time when hype drops. That is where it stands today, backed by more than 133,000 votes, which of course is an impressive level of engagement that actually shows strong enthusiasm from viewers who were left wanting more.
The series’ placement among television’s highest-rated shows is also notable. It currently sits at number 31 on IMDb’s Top 250 TV shows list. While it reached as high as number 17 last autumn, maintianing a position this strong six months later speaks to the show’s big impact.
Episode scores actually tell a similar story. More speficically, episodes three through ten continue to hold consecutive ratings above 9, which is an achievement that remains very rare for a television series. The opening episodes are not far behind, with episode one at 8.9 and episode two at 8.8, something that proves the consistency of the season as a whole.
For some of you that prefer another benchmark, the reception on Rotten Tomatoes paints a positive picture too. The series currently holds a 95 percent critics score alongside a 90 percent audience score, confirming even further the strong love it has earned.
Looking ahead, the main challenge for the creative team behind Season 2 will be to maintain the narrative strength that actually defined the first season. And if they succeed, the series will definitely preserve its standing for years to come!
