The most recent fan reaction shows just how strongly viewers want more seasons of the Dexter prequel.
Dexter: Resurrection may be the only series in the franchise currently moving forward, but fans still haven’t gotten over Dexter: Original Sin. The prequel wrapped its first and only season one year ago and was officially un-renewed last August, a decision that continues to spark negative reactions from fans.
The push to save Original Sin has remained remarkably passionate, even with Michael C. Hall returning as Dexter Morgan in a new series. That actually says a lot about how deeply viewers connected with the prequel’s story and characters. The latest reminder of that devotion came from an...unexpected moment involving one of the show’s stars.
Alex Shimizu, who brilliantly portrayed a younger Vince Masuka, shared an Instagram story just hours before the Super Bowl encouraging followers to tune in for something surprising. What he probably didn’t anticipate was the wave of messages that followed. His inbox quickly filled with fans asking whether a Dexter: Original Sin Season 2 renewal would be announced during the Super Bowl broadcast!
Shimizu later addressed the speculation with a follow-up Instagram story, clarifying that his post had nothing to do with a renewal announcement. He responded playfully to the excitement, noting that if the series ever returns, he likely wouldn’t be the one revealing the news, although he admitted that would actually be pretty epic.
So why did he encourage fans to watch? The real reason was his brief appearance in one of the night’s Super Bowl commercials. Shimizu had a cameo in a ChatGPT ad, and wanted followers to spot him during the broadcast.
In case you missed it, you can watch the commercial below. Shimizu appears at the 0:41 mark.
Shimizu has been especially vocal about supporting fan efforts to revive Dexter: Original Sin. He has actively encouraged viewers to sign the petition calling for the show’s return. That campaign has surpassed 107,000 verified signatures, proving a sustained demand.
Original Sin set out to explore deeper stories and introduce key characters (like young Doakes) from Dexter’s past, and many of us still feel that journey ended way too soon. Director Marcos Siega recently urged viewers to keep talking about both Original Sin and the planned Trinity prequel, a series with all ten episodes reportedly written but currently shelved indefinitely. His comments reignited hope that the Dexter could still expand.
Whether Paramount ultimately reconsiders remains uncertain. For now, Dexter: Resurrection appears to be the network’s primary focus. Even so, the ongoing fan response makes it clear that the appetite for Dexter: Original Sin definitely hasn’t faded, and the conversation about its future is not over.
