Hours before a new season officially premieres, the review embargo lifts, allowing critics to share their thoughts on the upcoming episodes. That's exactly what has happened with Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, as Rotten Tomatoes has now collected the first reviews and revealed the season's debut score.
These early reviews are based strictly on the first two episodes, which Paramount+ provided to critics ahead of the premiere. So, how does the highly anticipated second season compare to the first one?
We're off to a great start. Based on the first six reviews from professional critics, Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 currently holds an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes, earning it a Fresh rating. It hasn't reached Certified Fresh status yet, but more reviews are needed before that can happen.
The score is actually lower than Season 1's initial rating, but the difference isn't necessarily a reason for concern.
How Season 2's Score Compares to Season 1
When the first season's reviews arrived on July 9, 2025, two days before the series premiere, Dexter: Resurrection debuted with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, with all ten episodes available, Season 1 holds an impressive 95%.
Season 2's current score is therefore 17 percentage points lower than Season 1's debut score. However, with only six reviews counted so far, each one has a very big impact on the overall percentage. One negative review is actually enough to bring the score down from 100%, so it's still too early to judge how the new season will compare.
For now, the encouraging news for those who care a lot about those kinds of numbers is that most critics who have reviewed the first two episodes have responded positively.
And honestly, as we explained in our completely spoiler-free early review of the first two episodes, published weeks ago, Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 has everything it needs to be even stronger than Season 1.
