Dexter: Resurrection Just Scored Its First Major Award Win at the HMMA Awards

The series picked up its first-ever award win, thanks to the work of music supervisor Sean Fernald.

Dexter: Resurrection may not have been in the running for this year’s 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, simply because the season premiered just as nominations were being finalized over the summer. Still, the show didn’t walk away empty handed this awards season. Its first major nomination ended up paying off in a way that feels and actually is incredibly well deserved.

During last night's Hollywood Music in Media Awards, an annual ceremony that celebrates composers, songwriters and music supervisors across film, television, gaming and more, Dexter: Resurrection earned a win in the only category it was nominated for: Music Supervision for a TV Show and Limited Series.

This category is designed to honor the creative force behind a show’s entire musical identity, acknowledging those who curate the sounsdcape that shapes its emotional tone and deepens the scenes. For this series, that guiding hand was Sean Fernald.

Fernald’s work on Dexter: Resurrection is something that defined the season, threadng licensed tracks and carefully crafted musical moments through every episode. His win marks his first HMMA award, and the excitement is definitely heightened by the competition he faced.

The category included standout contenders such as Severance (George Drakoulias), Wednesday (Jen Malone and Nicole Weisberg), Nobody Wants This (Manish Raval, Tom Wolfe, Jonathan Leahy), The Summer I Turned Pretty (Melyssa Hardwick), Yellowjackets (Nora Felder) and Étoile Robin (Urdang). That lineup alone only shows how impressive this victory is.

Just like with New Blood and Original Sin, licensed music played a major role in season one of Dexter: Resurrection, with dozens of selected songs woven throughout hte story. The recognition is meaningful not only for Fernald but for the series itself, and for the last few hours, producers along with fans have been sending him their congratulations.

It’s the kind of moment that feels like momentum building, and maybe, just maybe, a hint of even bigger things waiting just ahead!
