Clyde Phillips didn’t hold back when addressing this character’s fate.
Ten episodes into Dexter: Resurrection, it’s clear this revival is not afraid to take bold risks. One of the most shocking moments came in Episode 9, “Touched by an Ángel,” when a beloved character from the original series met their end—leaving fans stunned and heartbroken.
Yet, when the Season 1 finale rolled around, the show pulled back slightly, delivering a conclusion that felt more restrained compared to its infamous predecessors. Both the Dexter Season 8 finale (where Debra Morgan tragically died) and Dexter: New Blood’s ending (which killed off Dexter himself—at least temporarily) took daring narrative swings that left lasting scars on the fandom.
Of course, Dexter’s own death was ultimately undone in Resurrection, giving fans one of TV’s most surprising redemption arcs in the past decade. But now, with the revival moving forward, viewers are asking: will the writers take similar risks with other core characters?
Clyde Phillips Teases What’s Next
In a recent interview on Gareth Watkins’ podcast, Dexter showrunner and creator Clyde Phillips offered early insights into Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection. While stressing that the writers’ room won’t officially begin until Monday, October 6, he confirmed that early ideas are already in motion:
“I don’t know what next year is yet. Scott [Reynolds] and I have some ideas, but we haven’t worked it out. I’ll be traveling to L.A. in a couple weeks to put the room together, but it will be intense.”
But Phillips didn’t stop there—he went on to reveal a piece of information that many fans will consider a major (and welcome) spoiler.
Harrison Morgan Isn’t Going Anywhere
That’s right. Dexter’s son, Harrison Morgan (played by the talented Jack Alcott), is safe. Phillips made it crystal clear that Harrison will not be killed off—not in Season 2, nor in any future seasons of Dexter: Resurrection.
“It will feel as real as it can knowing that we’re doing fiction, but it’s not going to get us anywhere to have Harrison in mortal danger. We’re not killing Harrison.”
Phillips doubled down on his reasoning with a rhetorical question that speaks volumes about the character’s importance:
“If we were to kill Harrison, then who’s Dexter?”
This statement makes it obvious that the writers view Harrison as central to the story moving forward. Just as Dexter: New Blood initially positioned Harrison to carry the franchise, Resurrection has now firmly established him as the emotional core of the series.
Why Keeping Harrison Alive Matters
Instead, Dexter: Resurrection seems committed to exploring Harrison’s growth, trauma, and moral struggles without threatening his survival. This approach allows the writers to deepen his arc while keeping the Morgan bloodline alive, a symbolic move that strengthens the revival’s long-term storytelling.
Final Thoughts
Clyde Phillips’ comments may have spoiled one mystery, but they also gave fans something precious: reassurance. Harrison Morgan is here to stay.
