Dexter: Resurrection’s 'Post Mortem' featurette returns, this time dissecting Episode 6.
Fans are still buzzing over the jaw-dropping final moments of Dexter: Resurrection Season 1, Episode 6, “Cats & Mouse” — and Showtime is keeping the momentum going. In true Monday tradition, the network has dropped a brand-new behind-the-scenes “post-mortem” featurette that dives deep into the making of the latest episode.
Episode 6 proved to be one of the season’s most compelling hours yet — a perfect blend of twisted suspense and raw emotion, the exact combination that Dexter fans live for. Written by Kirsa Rein, a fresh voice in the Dexter universe with only a handful of writing credits to her name, the episode has quickly become a fan favorite. Viewers have been praising its bold storytelling, calling it one of the strongest installments of the season so far.
The featurette, released earlier today, brings together Jack Alcott (Harrison Morgan), Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan), Peter Dinklage (Leon Prater), David Zayas (Angel Batista), and showrunners Clyde Phillips and Scott Reynolds, each offering personal insights and anecdotes from the set.
Jack Alcott on Harrison’s Small but Powerful Victory
Jack Alcott reflected on how rare it was for Harrison to have a genuine moment of relief after such an intense run of episodes. From his perspective, filming a warmer, more hopeful scene felt refreshing after five and a half episodes of relentless tension. He explained that Harrison has been desperate for a sense of belonging, and finally experiencing even a small “win” meant a lot for the character. Feeling like part of a family — and receiving that acceptance from his father, the one person who truly understands him — was portrayed as a deeply important moment in Harrison’s arc.
Michael C. Hall on Harrison as Dexter’s Anchor
Michael C. Hall expanded on this relationship, describing Harrison as the key to keeping Dexter tethered to his humanity. He explained that Dexter genuinely loves his son — not in a selfish way, but in a way that wills the best for him. Hall noted that a pivotal part of Dexter’s evolution in this episode is letting go of the narcissistic fantasy that Harrison would follow in his footsteps. Instead, Dexter comes to accept that his son should live his own life.
Peter Dinklage on Leon Prater’s Calm Presence
Peter Dinklage, who portrays Leon Prater, discussed the unique role his character plays in the tense atmosphere of the show. He sees Leon as someone who acts like “the host” in any situation, trying to keep everyone calm and at ease despite the danger surrounding them. While Leon is fully aware of the turmoil, he aims to provide a safe space where people can almost feel normal again — a small but meaningful reprieve in the chaos.
David Zayas on Batista’s Frustrating Dead End
David Zayas shared his thoughts on Batista’s unwavering determination, even when it leads nowhere. In Episode 6, Batista believes he finally has proof that Dexter is the man he’s been after. However, after the arrest of Lady Vengeance, he quickly realizes she’s not the person responsible. Batista tries to confirm Dexter’s identity by showing her his picture, hoping she will recognize him and expose the truth to everyone. But things don’t go as planned, leaving Batista frustrated and without the confirmation he was so close to getting.
Clyde Phillips on the Writers’ Room & That Final Scene
Showrunner Clyde Phillips gave fans a peek inside the Dexter writers’ room. He explained the use of the “NPO board” — short for “No Particular Order” — a collection of potential scenes that the writers would love to include in the season. Around 120 ideas go up during the first week, but only about 30 survive. The helicopter pad sequence in Episode 6 was one of those coveted ideas that made it through to filming.
Phillips also offered behind-the-scenes details about shooting the episode’s final moments. The production took place at an active helicopter pad, with choppers landing and taking off all day, right on the water. He emphasized that with Dexter, the audience should never get too comfortable — surprises are always around the corner. He credited director Marcos Siega for delivering the scene with intensity and precision, making it one of the standout endings of the season.
