As a guest of honor, Zayas—an avowed lifelong Mets fan—soaked in the electric atmosphere, bringing both star power and nostalgic charm to the game. His appearance not only drew attention to the epic Subway Series showdown, but also stirred excitement among fans eagerly awaiting his return as Angel Batista in the Dexter universe.

David Zayas Talks Mets, Military Memories, and Dexter: Resurrection

During the game, Zayas was interviewed about his deep-rooted love for the Mets, his time in the U.S. Air Force, and of course, his highly anticipated return to his iconic role in Dexter: Resurrection. The full interview was officially released today on Dexter’s YouTube channel.

Where Does David Zayas’ Mets Fandom Come From?

In a heartwarming moment during the interview, Zayas shared the origin of his love for the Mets:

"Well, you know, funny enough, I'm I'm from the Bronx. But, when I was, like, around 10, that's when the Mets 1973, and the Mets were, like, went into the World Series that year. And, you know, somehow during the year, I snuck into Shea Stadium to try and see a game. I got caught, but they put me in the bleachers, so I became a Met fan from then on."

A July 4th Memory from His Air Force Days

Zayas also reflected on one of his strongest memories from his time in the military:

"I have one vivid memory back, bicentennial 1976. I was on a boat with four other kids, and we had a whole month of August.

We were, like, on this cruise on this boat, on this sailboat. And on the July 4, that one day, on in the water, I just remember all the fireworks. But that that day, we also went to see this minor league team in Nantucket. And it was the most electrifying event as it's just watching it and watching the fireworks and watching the energy, and I that memory sticks to me all the time."

On Reprising Angel Batista in Dexter: Resurrection

Of course, the biggest buzz surrounded Zayas’ return as Angel Batista in the long-awaited sequel series. He described the experience as both nostalgic and creatively fulfilling:

"It's wonderful. It's great to be on again. I didn't know how I was gonna feel when I started filming, and it's been a while since I played this character.

But I got into the character right away. And with all the new information that my character has, it gave me a lot to work with as an actor to find different things. So it's gonna be a different Angel Batista in this show."
