The cast and crew also share insights on the key events of the episode "Backseat Driver."
As fans eagerly await Dexter: Resurrection Episode 4, titled "Call Me Red", Showtime continues its Monday tradition by dropping a brand-new behind-the-scenes featurette: "Post-Mortem".
These weekly videos offer a fascinating deep dive into each episode of the highly anticipated sequel series, featuring exclusive commentary from the cast and producers that sheds light on key storylines and pivotal scenes.
This week's spotlight is on Episode 3, "Backseat Driver", a tension-filled chapter that continues to unravel the return of Dexter Morgan and his complex legacy.
Scott Reynolds on the Dark Passenger Killer and Rideshare Twist
During the featurette, executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds shared how the concept of the Dark Passenger Killer came to life—an idea rooted in targeting Uber-like drivers.
"I came to the room and pitched to Clyde (Phillips) and the writers. I was like, what if our first killer hates rideshare drivers and everybody was like, you're sick. Let's do it."
Reynolds also revealed that the killer’s method of murder is an intentional callback to the original series, specifically the pilot episode.
"And if you remember, the first time that we ever saw Dexter in the pilot, there was that choir master who was diddling boys. And the choir master got in the car, and Dexter comes up behind him and goes, shoot. So there's a lot of reflections that we have going on that are very purposeful."
Showrunner Clyde Phillips chimed in with a playful remark, describing the series as a treasure trove for loyal fans:
"It wasn't badly written." he joked.
The Haunting Resemblance Between Ronah Schmidt and Dexter
Reynolds also discussed the casting of Marc Menchaca as Ronah Schmidt, highlighting how his physical resemblance to Michael C. Hall added a chilling layer to the scene.
"When you see that kill and Dexter has his face up against Menchaca's face, it really is eerie how much the two of them look alike. They could be brothers. They could be twins."
Jack Alcott on Harrison’s Deception
Jack Alcott, who plays Harrison Morgan, opened up about portraying Dexter's son as emotionally conflicted and manipulative, a performance he describes as both challenging and rewarding.
"A crafty liar," he called his character, adding:
"And so to not have that experience or know what I'm supposed to do or not supposed to do, I just felt like that would serve me because Harrison doesn't know. Don't let him know what you know, but at the same time, Claudette nails Harrison to the wall."
A Miami Reunion (Filmed in Manhattan): Batista, Masuka, and Quinn Return
Fans of the original series were treated to a nostalgic reunion between beloved characters Batista, Masuka, and Quinn, set in Miami—but actually filmed in Manhattan.
David Zayas, who reprises his role as Angel Batista, reflected warmly on reuniting with old friends:
"It was just like the old times, especially with C.S. Lee. It's hard to keep a straight face. These are people that I just love to work with, and doing that scene in Miami with them felt comfortable. It felt like just right."
Regarding Batista’s decision to retire, Zayas added:
"I don't think he is ready to leave his job. I think he loves what he does. It's his life. But I think it was the only option for him to pursue finding Dexter and bringing him to justice."
