Viewers are certain this original character’s fate will soon be sealed.
One of the most exciting aspects of Dexter: Resurrection has been the return of several beloved characters from the original series. While Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan), David Zayas (Angel Batista), and James Remar (Harry Morgan) were confirmed early on, fans were thrilled to see guest appearances from C.S. Lee (Vince Masuka) and Desmond Harrington (Joey Quinn) as well.
So far, the first few episodes have laid the groundwork for what’s shaping up to be a tense, emotional, and high-stakes storyline. Dexter is on a mission to find his son, Harrison, in New York City. But as expected, he gets sidetracked by a series of deadly encounters—including a new serial killer dubbed “The Dark Passenger Killer” and several dangerous figures tied to Leon Prater’s secretive dinner party.
However, it's not just new villains Dexter needs to worry about.
Angel Batista Is Back—and He Knows Too Much
Angel Batista is back as a series regular, and his storyline is already becoming one of the most talked-about arcs in Dexter: Resurrection. His return is deeply personal and emotionally charged. Batista is no longer just a Miami Metro captain; he’s a man with a mission and convinced: Dexter Morgan is the real Bay Harbor Butcher.
In episode 1, when Batista reunites face-to-face with Dexter, he reveals that he has given him a "gift": Dexter is no longer considered dead after faking his own death. He now has the legal rights to obtain a driver’s license, vote, and live as any normal person would. While this may initially seem like an act of goodwill, fans quickly realize that Batista’s “gift” carries a much darker intent. As Dexter chillingly narrates in an inner monologue, “You can’t prosecute a dead man.” This line makes it clear that Dexter knows Batista seriously suspects him and is preparing to prosecute him if he uncovers any incriminating evidence.
Back to Miami—But Not for Long
After Dexter fled the Iron Lake Hospital, Batista briefly returns to his role at Miami Metro. But a phone call from Teddy in episode 3 sets everything in motion once again. Dexter’s abandoned truck from New Blood has been found in New York City.
While Dexter had nothing to do with the vehicle being there, for Batista, it’s enough to act. He heads to New York, convinced that this new lead will finally allow him to bring Dexter to justice.
Is Batista Walking Into a Trap?
The real question is: What’s Batista planning? And more importantly, will he survive it?
Batista seems to be building a case. Without hard evidence, he can’t move forward—and that’s something Angela Bishop learned the hard way in New Blood. Episode 4’s trailer teases Batista’s arrival in New York and shows a brief but significant encounter with Harrison at the Empire Hotel. It’s a smart move—using Harrison to get to Dexter—but also a risky one.
This sets the stage for what fans are calling a cat-and-mouse game—and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
Fans Fear Batista Is Doomed
Longtime viewers of Dexter know all too well what happens to people who dig too deep into Dexter’s dark side. Just ask James Doakes or Maria LaGuerta—two characters who got too close to the truth and paid the ultimate price. Though Dexter wasn’t directly responsible for their deaths (Lila killed Doakes; Deb killed LaGuerta), they were still casualties of his secret life.
Now, fans are seeing parallels in Batista’s current arc. Comment sections are overflowing with speculation that Batista is next. His determination, isolation, and increasing knowledge of Dexter’s truth all mirror the doomed paths of Doakes and LaGuerta.
That Bar Scene Felt Like a Goodbye
One emotional moment fans keep referencing is Batista’s reunion with Quinn and Masuka at a Miami bar. The heartfelt group hug, Batista’s somber mood, and the unexpected kiss on Masuka’s bald head—something he never did in the original series—all felt eerily like a farewell.
What’s more troubling is that Batista hasn’t shared his suspicions with either Quinn or Masuka. They know Dexter is alive—but not the full extent of what Batista knows. As of episode 3, Batista stands alone, and many fans believe that could be a fatal position to be in.
Will the Writers Go There?
It’s worth noting that Dexter: Resurrection has taken a bolder, more suspenseful approach to storytelling. The writers aren’t holding back when it comes to character development and plot twists, which means anything is possible.
Could this finally be the moment someone uncovers Dexter’s truth and lives to tell about it? Could Batista succeed where others failed—clearing Doakes’ name and exposing Dexter once and for all?
Or... will he meet the same fate as those who came before?
If Batista Dies, Who Will Kill Him?
That’s the million-dollar question. If the writers do decide to kill off Batista, who would do the deed? Would it be someone close to Dexter—perhaps an ally trying to protect him? Or would it be Dexter himself, pushed into a corner and forced to silence someone he once called a friend?
