Dexter: Resurrection Will Run for Years, Says Showrunner – Multiple Seasons Planned

Dexter Morgan is back for good, and he's here to stay!

Today is a very special day for Dexter fans, as we finally get our first official look at the highly anticipated sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection. With the show already halfway through filming, the newly released stills give us an exciting glimpse into various episodes from the first season.

While longtime Dexter Daily readers may recognize many of the characters in the promo photos—thanks to the hundreds of behind-the-scenes set images shared over the past few months—it truly hits differently seeing them fully in character and in scenes from the show itself.

Following the image reveal, Dexter: Resurrection showrunner Clyde Phillips and star Michael C. Hall sat down with Vanity Fair, which had the exclusive rights to release the new photos. And during the interview, a major piece of news was finally confirmed—something that had only been implied until now:

Dexter: Resurrection won't be a limited series. It’s built to last for many more seasons.

More Easter Eggs and a Fresh Start

Fans can also look forward to another round of Dexter-style Easter egg hunting this summer. Just like the upcoming Dexter: Original Sin, the new sequel series will be rich with nods to longtime fans.

“This show can end up being an Easter egg hunt for the OG fans, but we’re also making it a fresh new show. If people haven’t seen the show before, they can come in and watch a fully formed television series,” Phillips says.

Not Just a One-Off — The Future of Dexter Is Bright

When asked if they see Dexter: Resurrection as a one-off or limited series, both Phillips and Hall made it clear that their ambitions go far beyond a single season.

“We’ve got the strongest franchise in Showtime’s history, and we plan to do this for years,” Phillips says.

Hall chimes in: “Years with an s. The thinking is not to come back for a sort of self-contained one-off again, but leave it open to further exploration. The intention, and hope, is that the story will continue beyond this.

”Hell, even if that weren’t the case, Dexter Morgan is a hard guy to keep down. “He’s a much more human, flesh-and-blood version of that horror trope of someone who just refuses to go down,” Hall says.

And rest assured—Hall isn’t complaining.

This is incredible news for die-hard fans who have wanted more of Dexter Morgan for years. However, some viewers might have mixed feelings about stretching the story across multiple seasons.

What’s your take on this big decision? Are you excited to see Dexter back for the long haul—or do you prefer a tighter, limited series format? Let us know in the comments.
