Jack Alcott Calls Playing Harrison “Stressful” in New Dexter: Final Cut After Show Interview

The actor appeared as a guest on Dexter: Final Cut to discuss Episode 3, "Backseat Driver."

Episode 3 of Dexter: Resurrection is now streaming on Paramount+ Premium, and that means it's time for the weekly companion series fans look forward to every Saturday—Dexter: Final Cut. Much like it did for Dexter: Original Sin earlier this year, this official after show keeps the blood pumping between episodes, offering fans behind-the-scenes insight, cast interviews, and fun extras to enhance the Dexter experience.

Now in its second season, Dexter: Final Cut is hosted by actress and longtime Dexter fan Jamie Chung, who appeared in Dexter: New Blood. Each week, Chung sits down with a special guest to unpack the latest episode, play quirky mini-games, and dive into what makes the series tick—from shocking plot twists to deeper character arcs.

Last week’s premiere featured fan-favorite David Zayas, celebrating his triumphant return to the franchise as a series regular. This week, Episode 2 brings another exciting guest to the table: Jack Alcott, the actor behind Harrison Morgan—Dexter’s son—who makes his long-awaited return in Dexter: Resurrection after more than three years away from the role.

Jack Alcott Opens Up About Returning as Harrison

In this week’s Final Cut, Alcott reflects on his surprising return to the Dexter universe, sharing just how unexpected it was to get the call from showrunner Clyde Phillips.

“Returning has been amazing,” Alcott says. “It was a surprise getting to come back to this because we were on Original Sin. I figured that my tenure in the Dexter family had come to an end. Then Clyde reached out and said, ‘Hey buddy, I’ve got another show, and I want you to be in it. I want you to play Harrison. And the show's gonna be starring Michael C. Hall.’ I lost my mind.”

That excitement quickly turned to emotional complexity, as Harrison’s journey in Dexter: Resurrection is anything but simple.

“He’s been through so much at this point,” Alcott explains. “Harrison definitely does not feel great about what happened. He’s incredibly conflicted. He was conflicted before, and now he’s even more so, because he’s spending all of his energy and effort on getting a new start. And he’s driven down to New York with nothing.”

Alcott also touches on the emotional toll and intensity of reprising such a psychologically complex character.

“When you think it couldn’t get more stressful—Harrison cannot catch a break. And returning to this role in this setting just amps everything up. There are so many more possibilities now—for good things to happen, bad things to happen, friends, enemies… it’s just an endless pot of possibilities.”
