Dexter: Resurrection Creator Breaks Down Episode 4 and Teases Even Bigger Shocks Ahead

Clyde Phillips joined as a guest on the latest episode of the Dexter: Final Cut aftershow.

It’s been an incredibly exciting month for the Dexter: Resurrection cast and crew, who’ve been working nonstop to bring the franchise back to life in a big way. Fresh off a major appearance at San Diego Comic-Con this past Friday—where the series had fans buzzing—the month has also been packed with special Dexter events designed to build anticipation for the show's explosive return.

And the payoff? It’s already here.

Viewers are hooked. Dexter: Resurrection has not only reignited love for the franchise, but it’s also being hailed as one of the strongest seasons in Dexter history. Episode 4, titled "Call Me Red," dropped to rave reviews, with fans calling it a true return to form. On IMDb, it's currently matching the score of the iconic Season 4 finale, a high benchmark in the Dexter universe.

To celebrate the latest installment, the official Dexter YouTube after show, Dexter: Final Cut, has returned with its third episode of Season 2. Hosted by Jamie Chung—who also moderated the Dexter panel at Comic-Con—each episode welcomes a special guest to discuss the events of the week. And this time, it’s the man behind the magic himself: Clyde Phillips, the creative force behind Dexter Seasons 1–4, Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Original Sin, and the current sequel series.

This special edition of Final Cut was filmed on June 19, just two days after the production for Dexter: Resurrection wrapped. In the episode, Phillips dives deep into the making of “Call Me Red,” offering behind-the-scenes insights and teasing what’s to come. He radiates confidence in the direction of the series and hints that the best is still ahead.

On Casting Hollywood Heavyweights

Phillips shared intriguing details about how major stars like Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, and Eric Stonestreet came on board:

“I make sure that all the scripts are written before I show it to an actor I really want to get. So Uma, Peter, and Eric read everything and saw we weren’t going to screw them over in Episode 8. They know the full arc of the series. That’s why they signed on. We didn’t even need a table read.”

On Neil Patrick Harris and the Kill Room Scene

Phillips also opened up about working with Neil Patrick Harris, who shares electric chemistry with Michael C. Hall in what’s already become one of the most talked-about kill scenes of the season:

“Neil was game for anything. He even suggested flipping a few lines in the kill scene. I’m always open to that, and he took what was already a powerful moment and turned it into something even more aggressive—and surprisingly funny. Watching him and Michael work together was pure magic.”

Don’t miss Episode 3 of Dexter: Final Cut, featuring Clyde Phillips. It's a must-watch for longtime fans and new viewers alike—especially if you're eager to know what’s coming next.
