The former Dexter special guest star, best known for playing Lumen Pierce, is among the celebrities joining the new season of Dancing With the Stars.
While many Dexter fans have been hoping for years to see Julia Stiles reprise her Season 5 role as Lumen in a new Dexter season, whether it was Dexter: New Blood or Dexter: Resurrection, it looks like the actress has taken a different direction for now.
Stiles was recently announced as one of the celebrities competing in the 35th season of Dancing With the Stars.
The addition of Stiles to the DWTS cast, which was announced on September 2, is certainly one of the season's most interesting additions. The actress has actually built a big career with major credits in both film and television, including her memorable role as Lumen Pierce in Dexter Season 5.
Interestingly, Stiles is not a professional dancer, although she famously played an aspiring ballerina in the 2001 movie Save the Last Dance.
Speaking to USA Today about her decision to take on the challenge, Stiles explained that she simply could not resist stepping outside her cofmort zone. She said she enjoys challenging herself because she believes that is how people grow, while also describing joining the show as a dream come true. The actress added that she has always loved Dancing With the Stars and could hardly believe she was finally part of it.
The 45-year-old actress will compete alongside professional dancer Ezra Sosa, with Dancing With the Stars Season 35 set to premiere on Tuesday, September 15.
Of course, Stiles' casting in DWTS is particularly interesting for Dexter fans, especially considering how often her name has come up when discussing potential returns to the franchise.
Stiles has been open for years about the possibility of returning as Lumen, who was introduced in Dexter's fifth season back in 2010. Fans have continued to hope that the character could eventually make another appearance, whether in Dexter: New Blood or Dexter: Resurrection.
However, there has been no indication that Stiles has been approached to return for Dexter: Resurrection. At least for now, it appears that Lumen is not part of the plans for the current season.
That said, it will actually be fun to see Stiles take on a completely different challenge. This time, instead of hunting killers as Lumen alongside Dexter, she will be stepping onto the dance floor and competing against a new group of celebrities.
