Dexter: Original Sin Season 2 – Patrick Gibson Says He’d Feel "So Lucky" to Return for More Seasons

The actor expressed excitement about a potential Season 2 of the Dexter prequel.

Warning: The interview contains spoilers from the most recent episodes.

With only one episode left in Dexter: Original Sin, the tension has reached a boiling point. Following the dramatic events of the past two episodes, Harry Morgan is about to confront a ghost from his past in the most perilous way imaginable. Meanwhile, his adopted son, Dexter, faces a moral dilemma—should Miami Metro’s Captain be his next target?

The season finale, Code Blues, is set to premiere on Valentine’s Day exclusively on Paramount+ with Showtime. However, there is still no official confirmation from the network regarding a potential second season. That said, showrunner Clyde Phillips has previously hinted that Dexter: Original Sin was never intended to be a single-season story.

Patrick Gibson on the Future of Dexter: Original Sin

In a recent interview with Yahoo UK, Dexter: Original Sin star Patrick Gibson shared his enthusiasm about continuing in the role. The fan-favorite actor expressed his eagerness to return:

"I had such a great time doing this, and everybody involved is so incredible. Having Clyde, the original showrunner, still at the helm, and working with such an amazing cast, I would feel so, so lucky to come back again."

What He Wants to See in Season 2

Gibson envisions young Dexter becoming more confident in his methods:

"This season feels like a pilot series where everything is being set up, and Dexter is just learning about his first kill. I’d love to see him start refining his techniques, taking bigger risks—which, of course, could lead to harsher consequences."

Returning Characters from Dexter

The stakes will only rise, and Gibson hopes to see familiar faces from the original series:

"I think it would be really cool to meet some of the characters we haven’t seen yet from the original show."

Working Closely with Michael C. Hall

Gibson also spoke about working with Michael C. Hall, the original Dexter, to refine his approach:

"I asked him if there was anything I should or shouldn’t do to align with his portrayal of Dexter. But he was very generous in letting me make this iteration my own. He also shared insights into what made Dexter relatable—his constant act of fitting in and the inability to live authentically. That’s something a lot of people can connect with."

Brian Moser’s Influence

As a fan of Dexter’s first season, Gibson is particularly intrigued by the subtle foreshadowing of Brian Moser, Dexter’s long-lost brother:

"Brian has been keeping an eye on Dexter for a long time, and seeing how their paths intertwine is really fascinating."

The Infamous Wig & Dance Scenes

On the much-talked-about young Dexter wig, Gibson joked:

"Of course, it’s the best! I actually got into it. The early scenes were fun—I even did some salsa dancing. They cut a lot out, though, because they didn’t want Dexter to look that bad."

The Big Bad Reveal of Dexter: Original Sin

Gibson was genuinely surprised by the major villain reveal:

"I was shocked. I didn’t see it coming. Looking back, maybe I should have suspected something since the character wasn’t in the original, but I was still caught off guard."

What to Expect Next

While remaining vague to avoid spoilers, Gibson teased what’s ahead:

"Let’s just say Dexter will have to get involved and manipulate people into believing the killer is someone else. But pointing fingers at his own people? That’s going to be tough."

Gibson’s Future as Dexter Morgan

Despite the dark nature of Dexter’s story, Gibson relishes the variety in his performance:

"That’s why I can see myself doing this for a long time. One day I’m in an intense scene with Christian, the next I’m earring shopping with Deb, then at a frat party, and then suddenly in a kill room. There’s so much variety, and that’s what makes it so exciting."
