Will Harry Morgan Return in Dexter: Resurrection? James Remar Weighs In on the Possibility

Could James Remar return as Harry Morgan in the sequel series?

All eyes might already be on Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel series (which fans have embraced more enthusiastically than expected) set 15 years before the events of the original Dexter. But in less than two weeks, another exciting chapter in the Dexter universe begins production. Enter Dexter: Resurrection, a sequel to the 2021-2022 miniseries Dexter: New Blood.

This new installment picks up moments after the divisive finale of New Blood, with Dexter Morgan surviving Harrison's near-fatal gunshot in the snowy woods of Iron Lake. Filming is slated to kick off in the first week of January, with New York City rumored as a potential location. As for the release date, showrunner Clyde Phillips revealed it’s slated for June 2025.

Michael C. Hall will, of course, reprise his role as America’s favorite fictional serial killer. Fans have been able to endure the wait for the sequel thanks to Dexter: Original Sin Episode 1, which explored the aftermath of how he actually survived.

As of today, five months after Dexter: Resurrection was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 (to much surprise), Hall is the only confirmed returning actor. Rumors, however, suggest new additions like Peter Dinklage, Gillian Anderson, and Uma Thurman may join the cast, though no official announcements have been made.

The coming days promise to bring exciting casting updates, both for returning characters and new faces in the Dexter universe.

Speaking of returning characters, let’s spotlight a beloved figure from the original series—Harry Morgan. In Dexter: Original Sin, Harry is portrayed by Christian Slater, but there’s growing buzz about James Remar potentially reprising his iconic role in Dexter: Resurrection.

When asked on the Dexter: Final Cut after-show about the possibility of returning, Remar responded with a smile and palpable excitement:

"I’m alive. I’m breathing. So I guess there’s always a chance!"

Fans last saw the original Harry Morgan in Season 8, Episode 11, “Goodbye Miami,” when Dexter decided he no longer needed Harry's guidance.

Whether Harry returns as Dexter’s conscience—or, as fans like to call it, his “ghost”—remains to be seen. But his presence would undoubtedly add another intriguing layer to the ever-evolving Dexter saga.
