Wilson takes on the role of a Miami Metro detective who also happens to be Deb's godfather.
Dexter: Original Sin is set to debut later this week on Paramount+ with Showtime, promising to transport fans back to 1991 Miami—just before Dexter Morgan committed his first human kill.
The highly anticipated prequel series will feature a main cast largely composed of younger versions of beloved characters from the original series. However, Reno Wilson's character, Miami Metro detective Bobby Watt, stands apart as a fresh addition to the Dexter universe.
In the latest "Autopsy Report" featurette from Paramount+ and Showtime, Reno Wilson steps into the spotlight to introduce audiences to his role as Bobby Watt and share his unique perspective on Dexter.
Dexter: The Superhero
“In my mind, Dexter is a superhero,” Wilson shared. “And we love all superheroes' origin stories. So to be a part of the franchise and the Dexter-verse... dope.”
Who Is Bobby Watt and How Does He Connect to Harry?
Bobby Watt is a seasoned detective with Miami Metro. As Wilson explained:
“Bobby started out in narcotics with Harry back in the seventies—about six more inches of hair ago—and later transitioned into homicide alongside Harry. They’ve been partners for a long time and are best friends.”
Godfather to Debra and a Moral Compass
Bobby’s deep connection to the Morgan family is central to his character.
“He’s the godfather to Debra Morgan,” Wilson revealed. “I’ve known this kid ever since he was watching Scooby-Doo in his jammies. And lighting fires and killing small animals,” he quipped, referencing a young Dexter’s dark tendencies.
Wilson described Bobby as a meticulous and principled man, acting as a moral compass for Harry Morgan. “In my mind, Bobby’s the one checking Harry, like, ‘You sure this is what you want to be doing?’ He’s a family man, a dedicated investigator, and a loyal friend.”
With Wilson’s portrayal of Bobby Watt, Dexter: Original Sin is set to explore not only Dexter’s dark beginnings but also the complex relationships that shaped his early life.
