The stars of Dexter: Original Sin recently discussed the upcoming prequel.
Paramount+ with Showtime is set to drop two new episodes of Dexter: Original Sin tomorrow, while press interviews with the cast continue to surface daily. In a recent chat with WBZ's Riley Rourke for CBS Boston recorded about a week ago, Patrick Gibson and Molly Brown—both appearing visibly tired from their packed schedules—opened up about their roles on the show and more. The video below also features a sneak peek of a scene from an upcoming episode, where Dexter and Deb are seen shopping and engaging in conversation.
On Whether They Were Fans of the Original Dexter Series Before Landing Their Roles
"I’d watched the Clyde Phillips seasons—he came back as our showrunner for this. And as soon as I got the audition, I thought, here’s the perfect excuse to binge all eight seasons and call it homework," said Patrick Gibson.
On Their Reactions to Landing the Roles
"It was nuts. It was a long audition process, and I’m glad it was. It really hit me that stepping into Michael’s [C. Hall] footsteps was a massive task. I was pretty shaken up," Patrick admitted.
Molly Brown shared, "I was overjoyed and so excited. But it wasn’t until I stepped foot on set that I thought, oh my god, we’re actually doing this. That’s when the nerves kicked in, and I became incredibly aware of the weight of this role."
What to Expect From Dexter and Deb in the Prequel
"Growth. There’s a long way to go from where they start in Dexter: Original Sin to who they become in the original series," Molly explained. "It’s fascinating to see these characters, who are so defined when we meet them later, figuring themselves out, making mistakes, and learning along the way."
Patrick added, "This is the perfect show for a prequel. By the first season of the original, Dexter had already killed so many people. Now, we get to see him as what he calls a ‘virgin serial killer.’ And honestly, who doesn’t want more Dexter?"
