The highly anticipated sequel to Dexter: New Blood is gearing up to begin filming soon.
Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel set in 1991 Miami that follows a 20-year-old Dexter Morgan as he commits his first kill, is nearing the end of production. The series is scheduled to premiere on Friday, December 13.
However, this prequel isn’t the main focus for Showtime, Paramount+, and the production team. Another major project in the Dexter franchise is currently in development: Dexter: Resurrection. This new installment will see Dexter surviving the events of the New Blood finale, picking up right where the 2021-2022 miniseries left off.
As for the creative team behind Dexter: Resurrection, we know that Clyde Phillips will return as showrunner, with Scott Reynolds reprising his role as writer and executive producer. Additionally, Marcos Siega, who directed six episodes of Dexter: New Blood, will be back to direct several episodes of the sequel. Recently, it was revealed that Matt Venne has joined the writing team for Resurrection.
Matt Venne, a screenwriter and producer, is best known for his work in the horror and thriller genres. His credits include Mirrors 2, The Exorcism of Molly Hartley, and episodes of TV series such as Bag of Bones, among others. At 50 years old, Venne is known for his talent in crafting suspenseful stories, making him a great addition to the writing team for Dexter: Resurrection.
A few days ago, it was announced by Deadline that 20th Century Studios has secured the rights to Test Drive, an original action spec by Matt Venne, with production to be handled by Safehouse Pictures.
Here’s a recent selfie shared by writer and executive producer Scott Reynolds, featuring him alongside Matt Venne.
When it comes to the cast of Dexter: Resurrection, Michael C. Hall remains the only confirmed actor returning, nearly four months after the official announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2024.
A recent report, which has generated significant excitement among fans on our social media platforms, reveals that Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones' Tyrion Lannister) and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files' Dana Scully) are in talks for leading roles in Dexter: Resurrection. These two Hollywood heavyweights would be incredible additions to the franchise, and we’re hopeful that negotiations will finalize successfully, bringing them on board!
