Throughout the original series, we've watched Dexter Morgan form alliances with quite a few characters, but not all of them have ended well. Miguel Prado, for instance, went from being one of Dexter's closest friends to becoming a mortal enemy, proving just how dangerous these partnerships can actually become.
With Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, however, things may take a different turn. Dexter is about to form an unexpected alliance with a woman who was once his enemy: Charley Brown, played by Uma Thurman.
Fans have suspected this partnership for months now, especially after various set photos showed Dexter and Charley getting closer. Now, Michael C. Hall has confirmed that the two will find common ground. During a recent interview with TVLine's Nick Caruso at New York Comic Con, the actor also revealed why Dex might accept Charley's offer and how their alliance could get complicated.
Michael C. Hall Explains Why Dexter Needs Charley in Season 2
According to Hall, Dexter will develop a new... appetite for being seen in Season 2, and Charley may know exactly how to use it to her advantage. And that is by giving him access to potential victims he wouldn't be able to reach on his own, giving their partnership a practical purpose.
Hall also noted that, within Leon Prater's group of people, Dexter and Charley arguably had more in common with each other than with any of the other characters. Although "Charley remains a threat," she seems to have an understanding and respect for what Dexter does.
That combo will make her particularly difficult for him to resist. Hall explained that Dexter is especially vulnerable when someone appeals to a desire he hasn't fully acknowledged in himself. Charley may do just that, making him susceptible to her charms and testing his (usual) caution.
Hall also revealed that even Harry might encourage Dexter to pursue this relationship, which is surprising given the risks involved..
Dexter Is Ready to Take a Different Kind of Risk
Hall actually described Dexter as someone who regularly backs himself into dangerous corners just to see whether he can escape. By accepting Charley into his life once again, he's taking a new risk by working alongside someone who is also a killer, even if she doesn't do it the way he does.
Of course, Dexter's main priority remains avoiding being caught. But Hall also characterized him as a "thrill-seeker and a daredevil" who enjoys testing his limits. Charley's return gives him a chance to break from his usual routine, and "his boredom" as Michael C. Hall called it, may be another reason he's willing to take that chance.
But things are bound to get messy according to the actor. Dexter has always been good at creating problems for himself and finding a way out, and that side of him is part of what actually makes him so entertaining.
