Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Brings Miami Back — And These Original Characters Could Appear

A recent casting call strongly suggests that the upcoming season will return to Miami for scenes in its opening episodes.

Looking back at the original series, Dexter introduced a large number of characters across its 96-episode run. But arguably, the most important “character” wasn’t a person at all. It was the setting. Miami, Florida actually played a massive role in shaping the OG show’s identity.

More recently, Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 also included a couple of Miami-set scenes. Interestingly, those weren’t filmed in Los Angeles just like the original series, but in New York City, where most of the sequel series takes place. Still, it’s pretty obvious by now, that Miami hasn’t been left behind entirely, even if Dexter Morgan himself has moved on. Just like Season 1, Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection will once again revisit Miami.

That confirmation comes from a recent casting call, very similar to the one we saw last year. It was looking for “Miami-type” extras for a specific scene, and possibly for the Season 2 premiere. This of course raises a bigger question, and that is which original Miami characters could show up in these scenes. And... could there be more Miami moments than we actually expect?

The first name that comes to mind is Joey Quinn. That’s definitely not a stretch, especially since Desmond Harrington has officially joined Season 2 as a series regular, which suggests Quinn will have a much bigger role this time around. And, that doesn’t mean all of his scenes will take place in Miami. It’s actually extremely possible at this point that he ends up in New York, especially if he’s trying to figure out what really happened with Batista’s death.

Another strong possibility is Vince Masuka, played by C.S. Lee. He’s still alive, and as we saw in Episode 3 of Season 1, he hasn’t changed at all for better or for worse. Masuka is definitely an ideal fit for any Miami-based scene, even if Quinn seems more... central to the overall story.

Jamie Batista is absolutely worth mentioning. As Angel Batista’s sister, she has an important reason to return, especially after the events leading up to his death. Even a small appearance in a Miami scene would absolutely make sense for her character.

All of this actually leads to an even bigger question: what exactly will these Miami scenes be about?

Based on the casting call for a scene that was reportedly filmed on May 1 in Manhattan, the production was looking for a group of Miami-style extras, likely to capture the city’s character and culture. That could point to a scene with a bigger crowd, possibly something emotional and also important.

One strong theory is that we could see a funeral for Angel Batista set in Miami. It would be a fitting and respectful sendoff for such a beloved character, and it would be a great opportunity to bring several familiar faces back together.

Of course, that’s just wishful thinking and speculation for now, and everything actually depends on how the writers choose to handle the aftermath of Batista’s death and whether they want to revisit Miami in a more... meaningful way.

For now, aside from Joey Quinn’s confirmed return, any Miami scene in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will likely include characters like Masuka or Jamie.

So what do you think? How do you see a Miami scene playing out in the Season 2 premiere of Dexter: Resurrection?
