Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Behind-the-Scenes Shot Quietly Confirms the Return of a Legacy Character

In a subtle reveal, the EP/writer confirmed the return of a figure who has become synonymous with the show.

Filming for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is officially underway, and right after production began, two of the most important creative forces behind the series marked the occasion by sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses from the set.

It all started with Marcos Siega, who posted the first images, setting the tone, and shortly after, writer and executive producer Scott Reynolds followed up with something a bit more revealing. His post was not just another set pic, it quietly confirmed the return of a key legacy character, someone who was notably absent from Dexter: New Blood, but has actually become essential once again.

That character, of course, is Harry Morgan played by James Remar. The actor is now officially set to reprise his role as Dexter’s adoptive father for a second consecutive season in Dexter: Resurrection.

The confirmation came in a subtle but also effective way. The image (visible on the top of this article) shared on Instagram showed two director’s chairs on what appears to be a studio set, possibly at Sunset Pier 94 in Manhattan. One chair had the name “Dexter” printed on it, belonging to Michael C. Hall, while the other was labeled “Harry,” actually leaving no doubt that Remar is back in what is considered the most iconic and beloved role of his big career.

In recent interviews, Remar has repeatedly expressed his appreciation for being brought back into the fold. His return also follows Jennifer Carpenter stepping away from her role as Debra Morgan, after what seemed like her final appearance in Dexter: New Blood. Still, showrunner Clyde Phillips has made it clear that Harry’s return was always part of the plan for Dexter: Resurrection, and not a response to Carpenter’s decision.

The understated way this reveal happened actually proves how integral Harry remains to the series. Season 1 of the sequel already showed that the writers are evolving his role, shifting him from the strict moral guide we saw in seasons three to eight of the OG series, to a more supportive, almost friendly presence in Dexter’s mind, something that fans absolutely loved.

After this, it looks like Harry is not going anywhere, and that is ideal, since the on-screen dynamic between Hall and Remar still feels as strong as ever!
