The Dexter: Original Sin star has been cast as a young James Bond in an ambitious new video game.
2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for Patrick Gibson, who has officially landed the lead role in 007 First Light as a younger version of James Bond. After years of secrecy surrounding the project, the recent confirmation of Gibson’s involvement was a welcome surprise, especially for us Dexter fans who have followed his rise closely.
More than five months after the last major update, the highly anticipated title finally returned with its first story trailer during PlayStation’s State of Play.
The reveal actually offered a cinematic look at a re-imagined Bond origin story, following a talented young recruit as he enters the 00 Programme. This version of Bond may be described as impulsive at times, but his instinct, charm, and natural ability set him on the path toward earning his number within His Majesty’s Secret Service.
For Dexter fans, parts of the official synopsis above might feel familiar. Gibson recently portrayed a younger Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin, a series that promised a deep dive into the character’s early evolution. That journey ended...sooner than many of us hoped, and it has now been a full year since the series wrapped its run, making Gibson’s move into another iconic origin story actually feel like a fitting next chapter.
Leading a major franchise project like 007 First Light is definitely expected to elevate Gibson’s career and could also bring renewed attention to his work within the Dexterverse. The game is currently scheduled for release on May 27, 2026, a date that was previously occupied by Grand Theft Auto 6 before Rockstar delayed it.
You can watch another look of Gibson stepping into the beloved role in the newly released story trailer.
