Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Episode 2 Writer Confirmed, and It’s Someone Fans Love to Hate

More and more information about the upcoming season continues to come out.

The second season of Dexter: Resurrection is actively coming together, and that alone is strong confirmation for fans that the sequel series is officially moving forward. After Dexter: Original Sin's renewal was taken back, many viewers worried that Resurrection could actually face a similar outcome. What we are seeing now, however, is a completely different situation taking shape.

Unlike the prequel, Dexter: Resurrection has an open writers’ room, something that never materialized for Original Sin. On top of that, a filming start date has already been scheduled and confirmed, signaling legit momentum behind the project. This progress comes amid renewed excitement following Marcos Siega’s public hope that Paramount+ would reconsider earlier decisions and continue expanding the Dexter franchise.

With new leadership at Paramount and a release month already mapped out, Dexter: Resurrection definitely feels locked in. According to Clyde Phillips, the showrunner and executive producer, the writing team began breaking the fourth episode of Season 2 this week, which actually highlights how far along the process already is.

During a recent appearance on Love It Film with Jamie Lovett, Phillips also revealed who is writing the second episode of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. The announcement may spark some mixed reactions among fans, as the writer has faced criticism in the past for certain creative choices made during the original series, particularly throughout seasons six, seven, and eight between 2011 and 2013. That writer is Scott Buck.

Despite the controversy surrounding his later tenure as showrunner, Buck’s early years on Dexter produced some of the show’s most memorable and well-loved episodes. He returned to the franchise following his absence during the 2021 limited series Dexter: New Blood. For Dexter: Resurrection Season 1, Buck also penned the amazing second episode, “Camera Shy,” which currently holds the lowest IMDb rating of the season at 8.8 out of 10, a score that is still...impressively high by any standard!

Buck was recently spotted in a photo from the Season 2 writers’ room shared by Marcos Siega just days ago. Overall, his return for a second consecutive season is a notable development, and the fact that much of the Season 1 writing team remains intact really suggests that Clyde Phillips is aiming to replicate the critical praise and success of Dexter: Resurrection when it returns in 2026.
