Original Dexter Star Gets Emotional as He Confirms His Return for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2

It seems this character isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

It’s been just under three weeks since Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 officially entered development. The writers’ room has been open for 20 days now, and the creative team is hard at work figuring out how to match (or even surpass) the first season, which captivated fans across the world this past summer.

It’s a tall order, but the excitmeent behind the scenes is palpable. Most of the actors have already been informed about whether they're coming back or not, and now we have confirmation of another major return.

James Remar, the beloved actor who has portrayed Dexter's adoptive father Harry since the original pilot that was filmed in Miami back in 2005, is returning for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. Ghost Harry will once again serve as Dexter’s inner voice and moral compass, continuing a dynamic that defined the original series.

Remar confirmed the news himself during a recent red carpet appearance for HBO’s upcoming It: Welcome to Derry, where he stars alongside Kimberly Guerrero, Stephen Rider, and Taylour Paige. Speaking with ScreenRant, Remar revealed that he’s preparing to reprise his role as Harry in Season 2, which is set to begin filming in spring 2026.

The veteran actor grew emotional when reflecting on his long-running collaboration with Michael C. Hall. “I can’t wait for further development, further evolution, and more scenes with Michael,” Remar said. “All of my scenes are with him, and I get emotional about it since we’ve been working together for almost twenty years. I have a real-life son, but Mike’s my TV son. I love him, and I look forward to working with him more.”

These heartfelt words from Remar come as no surprise. Over the years, and especially this past year, he has often expressed his deep gratitude for being part of Dexter, frequently praising both the show’s writing and his on-screen son, Michael C. Hall.

Harry's absence in Dexter: New Blood was felt by many, and his return brings back a sense of familiarity that ties Resurrection to the show’s roots. His distinctive voice, and presence have always been part of what made Dexter’s internal struggles compelling.

This confirmed return, however, seems to close the door on another fan desire, that Debra Morgan’s ghost (played by Jennifer Carpenter) would guide Dexter in Season 2. While opinions among fans differ on whether Deb or Harry serves that role better, it is guaranteed that Harry Morgan isn’t done yet.
