The actor discussed wrapping the season during an interview with Good Day Sacramento.
The release of the penultimate episode of Dexter: Resurrection is right around the corner, and the excitement among fans couldn’t be higher. With just one chapter left before the explosive Season 1 finale, the anticipation is reaching a fever pitch.
It’s no surprise that the hype keeps building—Dexter: Resurrection has exceeded every expectation, quickly becoming a fan-favorite revival that has reignited the passion of longtime viewers. The season has delivered unforgettable moments, from the gripping Batista vs. Dexter storyline to the powerful performances of its stellar cast.
One of the most talked-about returning stars this season is David Zayas, reprising his role as Angel Batista. Fans have been buzzing with theories about how Batista fits into the story, and this week Zayas gave us more to chew on. He appeared on CBS’s Good Day Sacramento, where he discussed the final two episodes of the season—and shared an exclusive sneak peek clip from Episode 9.
While the clip doesn’t feature any audio, it provides an extended look at a highly anticipated scene: Batista and Claudette Wallace inside the NYPD, a sequence briefly teased in the official Episode 9 promo. Even without sound, Zayas’s performance is striking—and we can already call it one of his most powerful moments in the history of the show.
David Zayas on Batista learning Dexter’s true identity
When asked about Batista’s emotional state as he inches closer to the truth about Dexter Morgan, Zayas explained:
“It’s definitely something that Angel Batista is dealing with now. How long has this guy been doing this under his nose—being his friend and working on cases with him? It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore Batista, especially now that he’s in a different place, without authority, and receiving new information every day about who this man really was—someone he thought was dead for the past twelve years, and who he also thought was his great friend.”
On reaching the end of Season 1
Reflecting on wrapping such an intense season, Zayas shared the bittersweet reality of saying goodbye to the cast and crew:
“When a season comes to an end, you get real close to the crew. It becomes like a family, and you know you won’t see them for a while. But it’s wonderful—it’s a great opportunity. I just feel lucky to have been gifted this role and the chance to explore it.”
Zayas on drawing from his real-life police background
The actor also touched on how his past as a New York City police officer shapes his performances:
“I was a New York City Police Officer for fifteen years. Maybe some of the jargon and police work comes naturally to me. But I always approach every character individually—whether he’s a cop, a convict, a priest, or a teacher. I look for specific things in each character that I can explore.”
