Emmy Nominations 2025: Dexter: Original Sin Completely Snubbed in All Categories

No Emmy love for Dexter: Original Sin and its cast.

The 77th Annual Emmy Award nominations were officially unveiled earlier today, and fans of Dexter: Original Sin were left disappointed — the prequel series received zero nominations across the board.

Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin chronicles the origin story of a 20-year-old Dexter Morgan as he transforms from a gifted student into a morally complex avenging serial killer. Despite critical praise and a strong fan response, the Television Academy chose to overlook the series entirely.

One of the most celebrated aspects of Original Sin was its cast. Patrick Gibson, in particular, drew widespread acclaim for his nuanced performance as young Dexter. Gibson masterfully channeled the mannerisms, tone, and emotional restraint made iconic by Michael C. Hall in the original series. His portrayal brought fresh depth to the character, impressing longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Molly Brown also shone brightly as young Debra Morgan, delivering a raw, emotionally charged performance that echoed Jennifer Carpenter’s legacy while adding her own bold interpretation. Supporting actors like Christian Slater, Patrick Dempsey, and James Martinez delivered memorable performances that elevated the show.

And yet, none of this translated into Emmy recognition.

No FYC Campaign — A Missed Opportunity?

It’s worth noting that Showtime and Paramount+ opted not to include Dexter: Original Sin in this year’s “For Your Consideration” (FYC) campaign — a move that significantly limited its chances of scoring nominations. Instead, the networks focused their awards efforts on other high-profile Paramount+ series, presumably those with greater perceived potential for awards traction.

While skipping an FYC campaign doesn’t necessarily disqualify a show from being nominated, it certainly narrows the odds — especially in an exceptionally competitive year for drama television.
