The actress who portrays Charley expressed her delight that the series was filmed in New York.
In a special appearance to promote the highly anticipated Dexter: Resurrection, Hollywood icon Uma Thurman stopped by NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers. The beloved actress brought her trademark charm and wit to the interview, where she opened up about her thrilling new role, shared her love for the series, and gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at what it was like filming in her hometown of New York City.
Before the interview began, viewers were treated to an exclusive sneak peek from Dexter: Resurrection which we also shared here on Dexter Daily earlier today—the very first preview clip to air from the new series. Excitement buzzed in the studio as fans got a taste of what’s to come.
Thurman, who plays Charley—Leon Prater’s mysterious and formidable right-hand—described her character with enthusiasm:
“I play a rather dangerous woman. She’s fun. She’s a highly trained, possibly violent person with a very private moral code.”
Leon Prater is portrayed by none other than Peter Dinklage, adding another powerhouse performance to the already star-studded cast.
During the interview, Thurman also shared her long-standing admiration for Dexter:
“Big fan,” she said with a smile.
Reflecting on her experience filming Dexter: Resurrection, she added:
“Honestly, it’s been one of the nicest experiences ever. Like, it’s been really great.”
For Thurman, one major deciding factor in joining the project was its filming location. As a devoted mother, the fact that production took place entirely in New York City made all the difference.
“Honestly, I live for it. Don’t tell anyone—but I was afraid. I mean, there’s a thing called the school year, you know what I mean?”
She continued:
“Being a performer in the entertainment industry can be one of the greatest jobs in the world—especially when you get to sleep in your own bed. Then it becomes the greatest job in the world.”
Thurman, who has spent decades filming on the road, expressed deep appreciation for working so close to home:
“It’s truly a pleasure. And also, New York—what a great canvas for me.”
She emphasized how often creatives treat New York City not just as a setting, but as a living, breathing character:
“Every single show or film you make in New York, writers and directors always say, ‘New York is a character.’ And they’re right. It really is.”
