David Zayas Returns for Episode Two of the “Resurrection Rewind” Series
On Wednesday, Showtime kicked off its “Resurrection Rewind” video series with none other than Michael C. Hall, giving fans a nostalgic and thrilling first look at the upcoming season. Today, David Zayas takes center stage in the second installment, offering insights into his iconic role as Angel Batista.
In the featurette, Zayas shares some compelling reflections on Batista’s journey and what to expect now that Dexter is in New York City, the main setting for Dexter: Resurrection. While he couldn’t reveal too much, his words gave fans a tantalizing hint about Batista’s mindset and his evolving relationship with Dexter.
Where Things Left Off: A Quick Recap
David Zayas offered a brief refresher on where we last saw his character and how Dexter: Resurrection picks up from there.
"Last time you saw Angel Batista was a phone call he got from Iron Lake, New York, saying that a person that he thought was deceased, Dexter Morgan, was alive."
He also reintroduced the character of Angel Batista to new viewers and longtime fans alike:
"Angel Batista is a Cuban American from Miami who became a detective in the Miami Metro Police Department and worked his way up from Sergeant to Lieutenant, to Captain."
How Does It Feel to Be Back?
Fans will be thrilled to know that stepping back into the role was seamless for Zayas, who has portrayed Batista for years.
"Stepping into Batista's shoes again after so many years is like riding a bike. Ultimately, it's the great writing of the series that brought me right back into the flow of things. I love this character. It's the character I've done the longest in my career."
Batista "Knows the Truth" – What Does That Mean?
Perhaps the most intriguing revelation from the featurette is what Batista knows going into this new season. Is it just that Dexter is alive, or does he also know the truth about the Bay Harbor Butcher?
"The difference between previous seasons and now is that I know the truth. That kinda changes his perspective on many things. Angel Batista is the kind that he will try to correct whatever weakness he's had in the past about doing his job and finding out the truth."
This could signal a major shift in how Batista approaches his mission — and Dexter.
