Exciting new updates and plot details have been revealed by Clyde Phillips.
Warning: Spoilers ahead for the Dexter sequel series.
As excitement builds for tomorrow's Dexter: Resurrection panel at Mexico's Comic Con Experience, Showtime has dropped a gripping new teaser—setting the stage for the official trailer premiere during the highly anticipated event.
The teaser, packed with chilling new footage, gives fans a tantalizing glimpse into what’s next for Dexter Morgan. But that’s not all: Showtime also released a set of brand-new stills via USA Today, featuring several of this season’s high-profile guest stars. Plus, in an exclusive interview, executive producer and series writer Clyde Phillips reveals intriguing new details about the storyline and where this dark journey is heading.
A New Beginning: Dexter Heads to NYC in 2022
Set in 2022, Dexter: Resurrection picks up shortly after Dexter’s recovery from the events of the previous series. With blood still on his hands—and guilt weighing heavily—he sets off for New York City on a desperate search for his son, Harrison.
Clyde Phillips teases that this next chapter is only the beginning:
"This season is a unique launching pad for however many years this series will be going."
Star-Studded Cast of Killers Unveiled
Thanks to USA Today’s exclusive access, we now know more about the A-list actors portraying some of the most sinister characters ever to enter Dexter's world. These guest stars were first announced earlier this year, sparking huge buzz among fans—and now, we're finally getting a closer look.
Previously released stills showcased the following serial killers:
Lowell, “The Tattoo Collector” (Neil Patrick Harris)
A successful anesthesiologist with a chilling obsession: he targets tattooed victims to expand his macabre collection of skin art.
Mia, “Lady Vengeance” (Krysten Ritter)
By day, a vibrant sommelier; by night, a methodical killer. Ritter’s character is both glamorous and deadly, reveling in the thrill of the hunt.
Al, “Rapunzel” (Eric Stonestreet)
A seemingly wholesome Midwestern dad of two—until his disturbing compulsion to strangle women with ponytails reveals a horrifying double life.
Gareth, “The Gemini Killer” (David Dastmalchian)
With a genius-level IQ and a twisted need to kill in pairs, Gareth has eluded the FBI for years. He’s so notorious that books, movies, and podcasts explore his crimes.
A Killer Gathering: What Is MurderCon?
According to Phillips, these killers don’t all reside in New York—but they’ve been invited there for a sinister reason. They're summoned by Charley (played by Uma Thurman), the head of security for enigmatic billionaire Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage).
“Let’s just say it’s a gathering,” Phillips hints. “Think of it like a MurderCon—an invitation-only event for the most dangerous minds.”
What Lies Ahead: One "Big Baddie" and More to Come
Clyde Phillips also confirmed his long-term vision for the Dexter universe. While fans can expect at least one major villain to meet a bloody end this season, others will remain in play, possibly becoming recurring threats in future installments.
“One of these characters will end up being what we call ‘The Big Baddie,’ and they’ll be taken care of this season,” says Phillips. “The rest will have to wait their turn. And really, that’s up to Michael [C. Hall].”
Final Thoughts
With top-tier talent, a fresh urban setting, and a chilling ensemble of killers, Dexter: Resurrection is shaping up to be a must-watch continuation of the franchise. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for the full trailer debut—because if this teaser is any indication, Dexter’s new chapter is darker and more dangerous than ever.
