Dexter: Resurrection – Writer Reveals Kill Room Photo from Unexpected Set Location

This newly released behind-the-scenes image from the Dexter sequel has fans buzzing.

Over the course of ten unforgettable Dexter seasons—including New Blood and Original Sin—fans have witnessed Dexter Morgan perform his iconic ritualistic kills in a wide range of locations. From eerie basements to deserted warehouses and even outdoor setups, the Dexter has adapted his kill rooms to various settings, always in service of his twisted sense of justice and to satisfy his ever-present Dark Passenger.

The Art of the Kill Room: Dexter's Signature Touch

The creative minds behind Dexter have always found innovative ways to set the stage for his signature kills, breaking the monotony with unconventional and atmospheric locations. Whether inside abandoned buildings or urban hideouts, each kill room brought a unique vibe—enhanced by lighting design, set dressing, and, of course, Dexter’s meticulous preparation. These elements helped define the visual and emotional tone of the series, turning every kill into a chilling work of art.

Dexter Morgan Returns: A New Kill Room in NYC

Following the official announcement of Dexter: Resurrection last summer, fans were stunned to learn that Dexter Morgan not only survived the events of New Blood, but he’s returning to do what he does best—kill. The highly anticipated sequel series is set to premiere on July 11, 2025, and production is already deep underway.

Earlier today, longtime executive producer and writer Scott Reynolds shared a revealing behind-the-scenes photo from a rehearsal on the Dexter: Resurrection set. The image teases an all-new kill room—located in one of the most unexpected places yet: a wig store.

Inside the Wig Shop Kill Room

The scene is unmistakably set inside a wig shop, as seen from the rows of mannequin heads lined with wigs of every color and style—from natural browns and blondes to vibrant neons. The space is fully prepped for a kill: walls wrapped in plastic sheeting, a large table covered in protective wrap, and the floor shielded with cardboard and blue painter’s tape.

Crew members are gathered around the scene, and eagle-eyed fans may recognize one familiar face—David Zayas Jr., the real-life son of David Zayas, who portrayed Angel Batista in the original series. Zayas Jr. also served as his father’s stunt double in several action scenes. His presence on set has ignited speculation: Could Batista be returning in a major way, perhaps even witnessing this kill firsthand?

Scott Reynolds captioned the photo on his X (formerly Twitter) account with the words:

“Plastic-wrapped and ready for fun. It takes a (Greenwich) village to make Dexter: Resurrection.”

Dexter in NYC: How Safe Can He Be?

This kill room is set in New York City, where the first 10-episode season of Dexter: Resurrection takes place. The urban setting introduces new challenges for a serial killer trying to operate under the radar. With surveillance cameras on nearly every corner and a population always on high alert, how will Dexter—or anyone else—safely carry out such grisly acts?

Who’s Behind the Kill?

While it’s easy to assume that Dexter himself is the one behind this latest setup, there’s growing speculation that his son, Harrison Morgan, could be involved—or even leading the kill entirely. If this is the case, it would align closely with the ending of New Blood, which teased Harrison's own Dark Passenger awakening.

Could Dexter: Resurrection follow both Morgans on a father-son killing spree? Or will Harrison step into the spotlight as the next avenger in the Morgan legacy?

As for the victim, theories abound. Some fans speculate that the target could be played by one of the show’s newly announced guest stars, such as Neil Patrick Harris or Eric Stonestreet. However, the mystery remains wide open, and there’s every chance the victim could be portrayed by an unannounced cast member.

Final Thoughts

The reveal of a kill room in a wig shop sets an exciting tone for Dexter: Resurrection and hints at a creative resurgence for the franchise. With the return of Dexter Morgan, possible involvement from Harrison, and familiar faces like Batista potentially reappearing, the stage is set for another thrilling chapter in the Morgan family saga.
