How will Miguel appear in the highly anticipated Dexter sequel?
Dexter: Resurrection is shaping up to be a sequel series fans won’t soon forget. Over the past few months, excitement has been building as news of a celebrity-filled cast began to surface, along with the return of some familiar faces. With epic reunions and long-awaited interactions ahead, this new chapter in the Dexter saga promises a thrilling ride.
While several beloved original characters are still absent from official casting announcements, fans were recently stunned by a major reveal. John Lithgow, who portrayed the chilling Trinity Killer, confirmed that he has already filmed a scene for Dexter: Resurrection. Although this was likely intended to be a surprise, the news quickly spread and stirred massive excitement within the fanbase.
Shortly after Lithgow’s revelation, Deadline reported another shocking return—Miguel Prado, played by Jimmy Smits. Originally introduced in Season 3, Prado wasn’t universally loved at the time. However, over the years, his character has evolved into a fan favorite, thanks to his memorable quotes and a resurgence in popularity through memes and social media nostalgia.
Following the release of first-look photos from Dexter: Resurrection by Vanity Fair, showrunner Clyde Phillips teased the return of both Lithgow and Smits:
“John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits will be in for a minute,” Phillips confirmed.
Though brief, this cameo is already setting the stage for an intriguing scene. John Lithgow offered more insight in a Variety interview, revealing:
"I come back sort of as a phantom, as Dexter [gasps] gradually comes to life on a hospital bed."
This strongly hints that both Lithgow’s Trinity Killer and Smits’ Miguel Prado will appear as hallucinations—ghosts of Dexter’s past—during a pivotal moment at Iron Lake Hospital.
Naturally, this raises the question: could other past villains return as well? One highly speculated character is Dexter’s biological brother Brian Moser, a.k.a. the Ice Truck Killer, portrayed by Christian Camargo. Camargo has subtly hinted at a possible return via social media, but nothing has been officially confirmed.
Despite the confirmations of Lithgow and Smits, Dexter: Resurrection still holds plenty of secrets. Not every returning character is expected to be announced in advance, ensuring that fans will be treated to genuine surprises when the series premieres.
