C.S. Lee avoided mentioning anything about a potential return in Dexter: Resurrection.
Dexter: Final Cut, the official weekly aftershow for the highly anticipated prequel series, returns with its ninth episode to dive into Episode 9 "Blood Drive" of Dexter: Original Sin. Hosted by Dexter: New Blood guest star Jamie Chung, the aftershow provides in-depth analysis, exclusive insights, and interviews with special guests from the Dexter universe.
Special Guest: C.S. Lee (Vince Masuka)
This week’s guest is C.S. Lee, the original actor behind Vince Masuka, who played the fan-favorite forensic analyst across all eight seasons of Dexter (2006–2013). During his appearance, Lee shared his thoughts on the cast of Dexter: Original Sin while carefully sidestepping any discussion about Dexter: Resurrection. Notably, unlike previous guests James Remar and Desmond Harrington, who were directly asked about their potential returns, Jamie Chung posed the same burning question to C.S. Lee this time around.
Before delving into the episode, Jamie Chung took a moment to recognize the devastating January wildfires that affected the Los Angeles area. Sadly, Chung herself lost her home during the fires, making this episode particularly personal for her.
C.S. Lee’s Thoughts on Dexter: Original Sin
Reflecting on the prequel, Lee praised the cast for their performances in portraying younger versions of beloved characters:
“Watching these actors bring the younger versions of our characters to life is simply incredible. My jaw dropped. It’s not just about their resemblance; they’ve captured the spirit of these characters with such nuance while also putting their own spin on them. I’ve been completely drawn in by all these ‘new-old’ characters.”
On Alex Shimizu’s Portrayal of Young Masuka
When asked about Alex Shimizu, who steps into the shoes of young Masuka, Lee had nothing but praise:
“First of all, Alex is an amazing guy—such a sweetheart. And then I started watching his episodes, and my god, he does a phenomenal job as Masuka. He absolutely nails the laugh—it’s spot on.”
Advice for Alex Shimizu
Lee also shared some playful yet heartfelt advice for Shimizu:
“Well, number one: look sexy. Number two: talk sexy. Joking aside, we had a meaningful conversation about Masuka and his world. The most important thing I told him—whether he realized it or not—was that Masuka is ultimately just trying to connect with people. Sure, he can be strange, and yes, he says some wild things, but at his core, he just wants to be loved. And in a place like Miami Metro, love isn’t exactly in abundance. His jokes and crass comments? They’re just his way of reaching out.”
C.S. Lee on Brian Moser’s Storyline
Lee was pleased to see Brian’s story explored in the prequel:
“I’m glad they went there. It’s such an interesting story because we already know that Dexter and Brian were together when their mother was murdered.”
On Harry Morgan’s suspicions, he added:
“We saw Brian almost suffocate Deb with a pillow—he’s definitely on a revenge tour, and Harry is catching on.”
